I headed here on a beautiful Saturday to unwind and have a nice relaxing day, it consisted of multiple stuff and I happened to be in the neighborhood and remember La Cabra was there and its beautiful designed interior.
I was quite stunned when i saw a whole stand of espresso machines and everything when i walked in. Even though it was already quite late into the day, their pastry and drinks election were quite a good range and clearly had a lot to offer; from their beautifully crafted cardamom buns, to the almond crossinats, to their range of drinks. Quite a nice classy selection of pastries and fine drinks that just make your day feel very fulfilled. After I finally was able to settle on making a decision being the Cardamom bun and a strong flat white.
Originally I just planned to get my coffee and leave, but I had second thoughts because of the delightful ambiance. I’m so happy I decided to stay because I will have to tell you that their Cardamom Bun donut and flat white were absolutely delightful. I haven’t had a flat white crafted so flawlessly in so long this bakery definitely meet my expectations and beyond it. The coffee beans were roasted to perfection and you could tell it with the amazing fusion of mixture between the milk and espresso. Absolutely rich and lightly strong to taste perfectly it’s job as a flat white. As for their bun it had a perfect consistency and balance of both sweet yet a slight bit savory kick with the cardamom which maxed it not heavy on the stomach.
The atmosphere and ambiance of the interior design of rose was absolutely terrific ! Very relaxing and laid-back yet inviting, complimenting the market’s design with a minimalistic design style, yet very elegant and detailed in design that really reflected perfectly into the café.
Lastly I’d like to highlight the friendliness of the waiters and staff that accommodated us so nicely although. I had originally ordered a shay latte, but I’m very picky when it comes to shay in general so I asked the barista quite a few questions about the mixture and all. She happily informed me about everything and even told that if I didn’t like it I could swap it, and that turned out to be the case funny enough. The service at the barista stand of La Cabra, they were very gracious! The staff was very friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout ou little sit down. It definitely added to making my experience one to remember!
I really cannot stress enough on how amazing my experience at La Cabra was: this must be a go to spot if you are near by and need some coffee to give you a refreshing start to your day All in all, I will have to say this is definitely one of my favorite bakeries in nyc that serves, I’ve been to so many and rarely does anything hit the spot and felt like home yet a fine class roastery at the same time. Whole heartedly I really loved my experience at La Cabra, very palatable to the majority and packed with great flavor! All in all, a top rated experience, I invite you to pursue a visit and enjoy your coffee session here; I can assure you I’m definitely coming back...
Read moreI’ve been to La Cabra Bushwick several times since it’s opened, giving it a chance over and over and it always seems to disappoint. As a proud specialty coffee professional + fan for over 10 years, visiting higher end cafes across the country, I’ve never had a more disappointing, lukewarm and frankly lazy customer service experience than from these baristas. It’s painfully obvious they got hired to fit the aesthetic and not to be helpful and caring customer service workers. For the price point, I would expect to at least have a decent experience where I feel taken care of.
Today, one of the baristas delivering our drinks spilled the drink all over my partners shoes. Not typically a big deal, accidents happen, but this worker didn’t really seem apologetic or caring about the situation, in fact my partner ended up asking if she was okay. The barista then just disappeared, leaving us awkwardly waiting for someone to mop up the spill so we could sit down. Not to mention there were about 4 other people behind the bar who could’ve helped but didn’t. We waited for about 10 min and then just moved to a different table, after which one of the baristas went and cleaned up the mess (but not until after we moved). The girl barista then magically shows back up and starts cleaning different tables for the white and cis customers that had come in (my partner and I are both brown and trans; in their defense this place doesn’t scream ‘we respect + welcome minorities’)
When my drink that got spilled was remade, it was made with the cheaper espresso although I had ordered the single origin coffee. I was too upset at that point to say anything to the staff, because it was so painfully obvious they couldn’t care less to give customers a good experience.
This place is giving classist, this place is giving micro aggressive, this place seems to be branded as a proud space for gentrifiers. I wouldn’t deem this place safe for BIPOC folks, who make up most of the residence in this neighborhood.
Spaces + baristas like these are the reason specialty/third wave coffee gets a bad rep, because they hire purely pompous, arrogant and inconsiderate people with a cool aesthetic and they stay inaccessible to the community that...
Read moreIgnore the naysayers. This is the best coffee spot in Brooklyn.
I worked closely in my field with some of the best roasters in the US, who got me used to some of the best coffee available. I have been trying in vain to replicate that standard at some place close to home in New York, until now. I bought a bag today and brought it home, and also tried a pour over while I was in this location. I was stunned. A mild roast, fragrant, crisp with clear notes throughout. Exactly as coffee is meant to be when presented at a premium level.
Not only that, one of the baristas there returned to me three times to check that I had all the information I needed to get the most out of the bag I was taking home - kind, friendly and attentive. If you want the best coffee at a high standard, priced accordingly, this is it. If you want bitter grinds, hipster attitude, loud music at a pennies less, go elsewhere in the neighborhood. I am stunned at the capacity for some reviewers here to rush to trash a place for not being the coffee shop they wanted instead of judging it for the coffee shop it is trying to be. In a sea of brands with good logos and cheap product, this place is striving for quiet excellence. That is to be...
