Michael O, terrible service. Would’ve liked this place if it wasn’t for the bad service. This place has been the topic of discussion for the last month or so between my girlfriend and I, we’ve been very eager to make the trip out and try La Cantine. The food was solid but the experience and service was lacking, HARD. Basically forced out of our seats before we even finished dinner let alone had the opportunity to order dessert (which we were most excited for). Michael forced us out mid dinner because he needed the table by 8:15 (Did not see anyone waiting and there were several open tables). He popped up out of nowhere mid bite to tell us we needed to leave and dropped off the check, truly disappointing. On top of the already horrendous experience they had the audacity to call me and complain about the tip!!! Yes I left a very small tip because the service was quite depressing. Tips are earned… stop acting so entitled La Cantine! Safe to say I will never be going back here & I will recommend friends to not waste money at this establishment. Please spend your...
Read moreI find it baffling how people can be so enraptured by a concept, without seeming to pay any attention to the quality and price of what is actually served. Granted, the whole decor is charming, the staff friendly and the vibe pleasant. But $12, for a simple jambon-beurre sandwich? It is simply not worth it! It was fine, but you literally pay 4 Euros for the same in any decent bakery in France. Go there and taste it for yourself! Or if you can't, easier still, make one at home with a baguette from Foster-Sundry/Imprimerie nearby!
The quiche I had, quiche Lorraine—super simple to make, and very satisfying when done well—was average, and that's being nice. Again, we are not talking sophisticated-level cuisine, here. Just asking for a truly tasty quiche, which it was not. Ditto the salad, which looked colorful and tasty, but wasn't seasoned at all, and flavorless. Overall, disappointing for a total of over $40, with two bland hot chocolates. And that gets over 50 5-star reviews?! It's a wonder if anyone going here actually...
Read moreLa Cantine is by far the best cafe around the Bushwick area!! I’ve gone many times now and I’m always blown away. They have a menu that changes everyday based on what ingredients they have and it’s truly amazing. They have some staples such as the crispy potatoes, egg sandwich, chicken cutlet sandwich, etc. but they have new specials everyday. I love how inventive they are and everything is always so delicious. They really specialize in their cutlets (chicken and cauliflower) and they’re really amazing, served on incredible ciabatta bread. Their drinks are also so good, I love their lavender iced latte and their dulce de Leche iced latte. Also, the vibes of the cafe are so cute!! It’s super 70s modern and it’s a great place to sit and grab food and drinks with friends or alone to do work. Really the best cafe around,...
