La Choza Del Gordo — Restaurant in New York

There was no service from the waitress besides taking our order. She took a long to bring us our drinks and our appetizer. We ordered one plate to share and one appetizer and one drink because we were in a hurry and just needed a quick bite to eat and instead we ended up at this restaurant for nearly an hour and there were only two tables in her section one of them being ours. We asked for the check before we finished our food because she would take her time with the two tables she was taking care of. When we finally got the bill we instantly paid in cash and we were waiting for the change. When she came back she went to the table next to us and proceeded to take additional drink orders as that table had already been served. When we motioned to get our change back she motioned her finger to wait. We went up to the counter and when she saw that we were going to talk to a manger she quickly came over and asked someone behind the counter for change from the money she had not given to the cashier, instead she had it in her back pocket. After changing the bill She left again went to the back and when she came back she did not give the full change amount. She kept a portion of it stating the restaurant did not have change and in order to give us change she would have to take it out of her pocket. She said the tip should have been “this” pointing to suggested tip. We told her the tip is not mandatory and she said “yes but don’t you want to leave me a tip? “ Since we were in a hurry we ended up leaving because it would’ve taken to long to argue plus we would have to yell to have a normal conversation because the music was too loud. This place was great! The ambiance was perfect, the food was delicious, the service wasn't perfect but nothing to die over. If you are looking for authentic Colombian food, this is the place to go to. I went with a party of 5. We were sat immediately. We ordered within 5 minutes, maybe? The menus we were given were all in spanish, but i do believe they have a menu in English. The server explained what any dish was that we were confused about. The food took kind of long to be brought. I ordered the Churrazco 18 dollars. Which was steak that came with rice or potatoes. I asked for a salad but they didn't bring it and provided the rice and beans instead. It also comes with platano maduros or tostones (which are also referred to as patacones). I wanted tostones and was given maduros. Granted the maduros still tasted great, I really wanted tostones. I didn't send it back because I didn't feel like waiting all that time again.

They do sell dessert, the desserts look great. Someone got the chocolate truffle which was delicious if you love chocolate. Came with a scoop of ice cream as well. They do sell beer which is not on the menu. I got a fresh lemonade (made with lime) it was very sweet, very good though. Will be returning. The pricing is reasonable as well.

They only lost 1 star because the food they brought wasn't what I wanted but what they did bring was delicious...

This is the second time I’ve been here. The first time wonderful service( wonderful man that checked on us every 10 minutes) and wonderful food. This time I waited about 20 minutes to even be spoken to by a server. I couldn’t believe that the people that came after us got their food before us and we ordered way before them and another couple got their food too before us( mind you that couple got there 40 minutes after us. We waited for our food about 40 minutes or more. No sorry or anything from the servers at all. It wasn’t even busy to the point for our food to take that long. The last time we went it was three people and it was a busy weekend and the food came in to our table faster then what we experience today I’m very disappointed. It even might be that the young boy server forgot to put our order in because a other server(female) came 20 minutes after he supposedly took our order and she asked what we ordered again. The service was terrible, but the food was wonderful( just the food alone was 5 stars). You need to get better servers that going to get the job done right and check on us. I’ve work in the good industry for a very long time and if you allow people like that to work for you then the business won’t be able to grow right.
