Arcades have always been a nice way to spend part of the day or to relieve some stress but I found there were very few available (aside from some of the bigger well known places).
I was recently informed of a new one that had opened in Astoria/Long Island City that offered a cool concept that I had not seen at other arcades. So normally you enter and have to pay individually for each game either with tokens or a point card. Here at GC you are given unlimited play for one or two hours (depending on which pass you purchase).
All the passes give you access to
Dancing Grid Dynamic Reality games Eye in the sky Arcade arena
The first three (dancing grid, dynamic reality and eye in the sky) are all interactive rooms that are made for groups. The dancing grid consists of stepping on blue colored squares (always avoiding red). The rules are explained in more detail when you start up the game or an employee will be happy to show you. Eye in the sky is just as it sounds. You have to hide from an eye that senses motion. These rooms are a good cardio workout as you will need to move quickly. I have not yet done the room with the reality game.
The arcade consist of a good mix of games including darts, first person shooter, target training, rapid ping pong ball firing toy guns, a water gun based game, full motion race car and motorcycle games and they have a punching machine (the kind you always see in movies or in online videos) so you and your friends can have fun testing your strength and a basketball machine for up to four players. There is a VR machine before you get to the main arcade area that I have not tried yet. And I had missed out on the grand opening where they had temporarily a hammer machine that was removed (the kind you see at carnivals).

When you walk in you will notice a section with claw machines to the right of the entrance. If you want to try your luck for a stuff animal or plush toy, you will need to purchase separate tokens from a kiosk or the front desk. There is a snack claw machine in the main arcade area. After trying and trying (perseverance and patience is key)
For those with bags and coats they provide convenient security lockers and there are restrooms onsite as well.
For hosting parties, there is a dedicated area in the arcade section with some seating but I have not seen it utilized thus far.
The employees there are are always very helpful and polite. You will definitely get a good cardio workout in the interactive dynamic rooms and I guarantee you will be wanting to beat any top score at the punching bag machine each time you visit.
Located under the bridge with street parking and easy access from the N train entrance which is less than 100 feet away I am always excited to make a visit to Gaming City with my friends. Kids will certainly have a lot of fun here with some...
Read moreLocated right on 31st street where the N train runs, a store front establishment with big googly eyes above the front doors. Your expected arcade/gaming set up. When you walk in the check in is on the left and there's an entire section on the right of claw machine games to win different plushes.
There is a VR two person set up, three interactive game rooms and a decent size area with various arcade games. They also have a small party section for those who want to celebrate a birthday or special event, this is right where the arcade area is. They have bathrooms, vending machine for snacks, and a locker area to store your belongings while you play and run around having fun.
Our favorite game rooms were the light up floor and the eye room. The eye room reminded me of squid games, the goal being to get all colors, numbers, or letters before the eye turns red and "catches you". The more levels you win the harder that game gets. Unfortunately the third game room was not working. They also have a dart game, basketball shooting stations, and target shooting game.
You pay per person, per hour and receive a bracelet that stays green, turns blue when you have about 10 minutes left, and then red when you run out of time. There are staff around the area to help and to keep an eye on red bracelets, letting you know your time is up and to please return to the front. We paid right under $64 for an adult and child for one hour of unlimited games, which included access to everything in the place. They gave us the locker for free but otherwise it's a $4 rental charge.
For the claw machines, you get tokens to play. Some machines take 2 and some 3 tokens. We went during the first month of their opening and they gave us 5 free tokens per person.
We arrived around 130 and it started getting busier as the afternoon went on, which means more people = more wait times to get on a game.
I do recommend for those with adolescent kids for a fun time on a cold, rainy,...
