This place is fantastic. Clean. Friendly. Zen. The whole atmosphere is optimistic and has an energizing quality to it. I've practiced in several yoga studios and TYR is a place where I feel the most focused on myself and my practice. They cultivate an easily accessible and self-reflective style of yoga that is both challenging and empowering. Even the most crowded classes feel spacious.
The instructors are deeply knowledgeable and it's always apparent that they put great care and effort into their classes. I'm very impressed with the attention to safety and form during the Pilates and Barre classes. There are many options presented for more or less difficult variations to optimize the classes for each student.
Some of my favorite classes are Pilates foundations with Stephanie, Vinyasa Flow with Victoria, Alida, or Francisca, Barre with Jaime, and Hot Pilates with Jen.
Even the bathrooms are calming. The air is often humidified, which is great during these cold, dry winter days. It can get crowded at times, but the other ladies are generally quite friendly so I don't mind. There are also lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc and a hair dryer if you don't want to carry all that around with you.
With the world seemingly going mad, this is the perfect place to get a great workout while unplugging from the chaos and tuning into your own...
Read moreBest investment thus far! The Yoga Room brings me peace, understanding, and love. TYR has given me the opportunity to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. It's a different type of workout for me. I was used to going to the gym, working out with weights, taking spin classes, and i practice breakdancing (which has many similar YOGA poses ) I can't find the proper words to describe this place. I'd rather go to TYR to get a full body and soul workout. I get a little stressed going to the gym now LOL but ill still go because i need to be active and have a variety. There are various classes with different schedules, it's clean, quiet and has all that you need. I have recommended this place to all of my friends, 5 have joined and the rest have it on their To do list! I am so grateful and humbled by the practice but the facility plays a huge roll too. I took Yoga in a gym the other day and the experience was by far completely different. I def prefer to go to a place where they have Yoga, Pilates, and Barre (TYR) which all have many things in common. TYR has what you need if you are looking for the experiences i've had. The best part in the beginning was the opportunity to check it out for only $39 for 3 wks of unlimited classes. This way you can make an educated decision if TYR is right for you. I love...
Read moreI think this place gets high reviews because there just aren't yoga studios in Astoria that are halfway decent. This place is halfway decent, but compared to the studios across the river in Manhattan, this place just doesn't hold up. On my first visit I needed a mat, and paid for it as expected. Just a few minutes after another new students was checking-in with a different receptionist and she cheerfully told her that mats are complementary on your first visit -- um ok?
Next up the studio has many rooms, which it needs because it gets soooo many students. The classes are packed. Again, I don't take this as a "wow this place is great!" but a yeah Astoria doesn't have much in the way of yoga. There will be no personal adjustments and I am not really sure what the instructors are doing sometimes. It's highly impersonal and feels like some conveyor belt. But maybe that's what some New Yorkers are looking for?
Also, the studio is large and there's lots of room to change, which is obviously great. What isn't great is it looks like the staff can't upkeep the place. There was a curtain that had a handful of dust trapped at the bottom. Pretty gross. To me, it tells me that their props are probably just as carelessly cleaned. I would probably only come here on weekends when I don't feel like going...
