Before going to Bunna Cafe we thought we would check out a drinking establishment in Bushwick. We were intrigued by The Bodega because it was listed as a Spanish-influenced wine bar. When I hear "wine bar" I have a certain image in my head. The Bodega isn't what I think of when I think wine bar. It seems to be a regular bar that has wine. There didn't seem to be a mind-blowing amount of wine available. My biggest issue with The Bodega was the service. My wife and our friend saw that there was a wine on special for $8. They even referenced it when ordering. I ordered a beer that was a dollar off, so $6. I thought the bill was going to be $22. It was $24. I asked the bartender and he said the wines were $9 each. I pointed to the special and he had no idea which wine that special was referring to. Even though I expressed my concern about the price difference he made no effort to remedy the situation; instead, he simply handed me the credit card receipt. If you have a special listed for $8 and then people order that special, you should give it to them for that price. Acting oblivious and ignoring the customer's concerns is no way to run a business. Or maybe it is because he got $2 more out of me. No need to return...
Read moreIncredibly hostile bartender kept insinuating and stating that my friend was being rude, asking her if she was okay when she was just drunk. She meant no harm and she even tried talking with the bartender to get to connect with her, when the bartender gave her nothing but attitude in return. She does have (somewhat) of a thick accent, and I assume the bartender didn't take to that kindly. We were served undercooked food (I assume this was the bartender's way of getting back at her being "rude"). We were incredibly polite and treated the bartender with respect and couldn't even get a simple "you're welcome" back when we said thank you after she gave us the undercooked, raw, doughy, pizza. What accentuates this issue even more is that we saw and heard the bartender being incredibly polite with other guests - so clearly this wasn't an "off night" for them. They were picking and choosing who to be nice to. I would suggest one to stay far, far away...
Read moreI actually really enjoyed our time, but I can’t give anything other than a negative review to a bar which charges higher prices than advertised once you close out. No menu, prices on a board behind the bar, and all beers we purchased were advertised as $5 (great price). When we closed out, we were given a POS machine and not a receipt, so we couldn’t check the prices. When we got our tab texted to us however, they are charging 15¢ more than they advertise on each drink without changing their menu. Small increase, yes. Completely unfair to customers and shady to not disclose and just charge for more than people expect? Also yes. Advertise the price things cost, it’s not like we would have behaved any differently knowing beers were $5.15, and we wouldn’t have left an otherwise satisfactory experience with a bad taste...
