I recently visited Look Deer Sushi in Brooklyn, and it quickly became one of my favorite hidden gems in the borough. This local gem is a true standout, easily beating out many overhyped spots in Manhattan when it comes to both quality and price—think premium, melt-in-your-mouth freshness without the wallet-draining bills. Tucked away on East 16th Street, this spot offers an unpretentious vibe with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients that shine through in every bite. The place is small and cozy, perfect for a quick lunch or casual dinner, and the service was friendly and efficient—our order came out fast without feeling rushed. I went for their sushi deluxe, which included a stunning assortment of nigiri that looked as good as it tasted. The standout was the lineup of four pieces: starting with a tender scallop nigiri drizzled in a rich eel sauce that added just the right sweetness; followed by a seared fatty tuna (otoro) with beautiful grill marks for a smoky depth; then a melt-in-your-mouth salmon topped with fresh green onions and a light glaze; and finishing with a vibrant red tuna accented by pickled radish for a crisp contrast. Each piece was perfectly balanced on vinegared rice, with that ideal fish-to-rice ratio. Paired with the classic pickled ginger and wasabi on the side, it was sushi perfection—fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly affordable for the quality. Don't sleep on their signature rolls either; I tried a combo that mixed classics like spicy tuna with creative twists, all at reasonable prices that won't break the bank. If you're into omakase-style experiences without the Manhattan markup, this is your spot. Overall, 5 stars—I'll...
Read moreOH MY GOD. I don’t even know where to start. Midwood, finally we have one of the best sushi restaurants in our neighborhood. Today, I ordered Sushi deluxe set from Look Deer sushi. I had the pleasure of trying out an incredible sushi set that exceeded all my expectations. The presentation was impeccable, with each piece of sushi meticulously arranged to showcase the chef’s artistry. The freshness of the fish was immediately apparent, with vibrant colors and a melt-in-your-mouth texture that was simply divine.
What truly set this sushi set apart was the attention to detail. The rice was seasoned to perfection, providing a subtle yet essential foundation for the fish. The accompanying sauces and garnishes added just the right touch without overpowering the main ingredients.
Overall, this sushi set was a culinary masterpiece. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or a newcomer to this exquisite cuisine, this set is sure to leave you impressed and craving more. I’m not even gonna mad if they raise the price, it’s that worth it. Highly recommended!
I accidentally ordered it for pick up via DoorDash, and called to Restaurant if it’s possible to switch to delivery and they managed pretty smooth and quick in this pouring rain day. Thank you again!!
Can’t wait to visit the restaurant, and want to...
Read moreAfter getting take out once, I decided to dine in at the restaurant. Chef Sam and our server Ben made some great recommendations. We ended up having some appetizers as well as a la carte items that were freshly delivered that day. For starters we had the Fried Shishamo and Hamachi Karma. These fried items were really well done and flavorful. I especially liked the Shishamo, it was my first time having that. Next we had a sashimi platter chosen by the Chef, see photo. For me, the stand out items were the fatty tuna and the tiger shrimp flown in from Hokkaido. Both of these just melted in the mouth. They even fried the shrimp head and let us try that, it was the first time trying that as well and it was very good. Next we moved on to a few a la carte nigiri, they all had their own unique flavors. We finished the meal with the "OMG Roll", from what I could tell it had some torched tuna on top with eel in the inside along with something else. The flavors worked really well on this one. Our server Ben was also really helpful and made our dinner very...
