Good food, with bad taste. If you want good food at a cute restaurant, this place may suit you. But if you want a relaxing, enjoyable time out, with great service, where you feel welcomed and like an appreciated customer, this is decidedly not the place for you.

On a beautiful, August summer day, I had a craving for pasta and stopped by Malaparte. I ordered the crabmeat linguini special with a side of spinich to-go, with plans of eating it in Hudson River park as I watched the sunset. I paid the hostess in cash and ventured to the park. A few steps away from the restaurant, I double checked to make sure there were utensils so that my sunset dinner date for one was not thwarted. They were not included so walked back - crisis averted.

I asked a gentleman for some utensils. He glared at me, irritated and told me “we don’t have utensils today” in that patronizing tone that conveyed a lack of sincerity. This would have been an odd response to any patron dining at any restaurant, but I found the factual basis for his claim dubious given that I found myself surrounded by patrons dining with spoon, fork, and/or knife in hand. It’s not an Ethiopian restaurant. Perhaps he thinks I ordered from some other restaurant and was just coming in asking for utensils for free, so I responded: “to be clear, I ordered this food from this restaurant,” thinking that would clear up any potential confusion in the tone and demeanor with which this customer service employee just spoke to me, a customer. A lady and another gentleman joined in with him this time, doubling down on the clearly false claim that this restaurant didn’t have any utensils.

Now, I can see why restaurant in an app environment want to discourage take out orders as to not overwhelm the kitchen. But 1) i ordered to-go in person; and 2), that’s no excuse for poor customer service. I walked a few blocks north to the gourmet garage, told the clerk about the incident, he apologized to me, and walked me over to the utensils. And that’s the service I got from a place I did not purchase anything in.

I had my dinner by the sunset and I enjoyed myself. One pony don’t stop no show! But now, I just won’t be back to Malaparte. With the limited time I have and my hard earned coin, I’m not just looking for an average dining experience, particularly at a certain price point. And I for damn sure am not looking for a place that gives me unnecessary attitude. For me, service is...

Excellent Italian Food. Really strange service. We ordered many dishes to share for our party of four and enjoyed each one. Outdoor seating is very nice and quiet while indoors is more lively. The grilled squid was a group favorite and the steak was delicious as well. Lasagna and gnocchi were also worth ordering. The service, however, made our experience feel very odd. It wasn’t that it was aloof or unpleasant, but the staff did seem like they had never worked at a restaurant before - all of them, collectively. We ordered all plates to share and let them know that we’d be having dinner “family style”. Bread was dropped with no bread plates and dishes were delivered with no serving utensils. When asked for serving utensils for the four dishes, the server responded with “how many?” He also looked confused that we needed more than one steak knife between the four of us. When we entered the restaurant to use the restroom, we found the staff standing around talking, blocking the doorway with no awareness of the customer. When we had finished, plates were clumsily cleared causing a wine glass to tumble and for some reason, the server’s fingers with inside the glass! Finally, while my party was in the restroom, I was abruptly asked to leave the table because there was a party waiting. Everyone is very nice and the food is great. I would definitely recommend. Just don’t expect a refined dining experience.

First off, walking here was a joy. The West village is really nice and very relaxed, of course. There's a lot of hustle and bustle. But much calmer than other areas. As me and my wife walk through there. We enjoyed looking at all. The brownstones and renovated buildings. Definitely inspired us to move if we could lol Anyways, the restaurant is on the corner, it was very busy but very accommodating at the same time. We arrived about 45 minutes early and were able to be seated. The food amazing, the noodles definitely homemade. They had such a beautiful texture and tenderness to them, but just enough resistance to know that it's not a pre-made pasta. The spaghetti Alla carbonara, is what I had which was amazing. Super creamy, super flavorful and super simple to make when done correctly. I had also gotten the fennel sausage with gorgonzola polenta. Definitely different but still very good. My wife had gotten the lasagna, it was incredibly hearty but incredibly tasting as well. Everything was done so well , it mesh so well and everything was so tasty, the sauce was not acidic at all. So therefore you can enjoy it and not feel like you're swallowing acid lol 10 out of 10 would come back, and was not very expensive. We got a appetizer, two entrees, glass of wine, ginger ale and a dessert. Came out to around $90, which I believe wasn't bad.
