Entwine Cocktail Bar — Restaurant in New York

The sign was the draw — patio is open. We were looking for something outdoor with a nice selection of small plates to share. And honestly, it was Valera — the host — who made me to actually check out the menu. Never looking like a valued customer in my after-the-workout attire, I was pulled in with his “Hey, come on in” attitude. After all the places we dissed on our walk through the Meatpacking District — too crowded, too loud, too dark, too inside, too on the street, too stiff, too long of a wait — Tom didn’t even bother to go in. These days, when the time is ticking faster and faster, the ambience begins to matter to us as much as the food. Well, this place turned out to be amazing! The place is very intriguing in terms of a set up: you walk into a tiny space with a few spots at the bar, but then, there is a larger room in the back with more tables. And there is an outdoor patio. And a room for private parties downstairs. And the menu. It is not overwhelming but it is to the point. Cocktails. I am not a cocktail person when dining out — most of it is sugary water to me. Here, they do not skimp on alcohol and do not trash you with sugar. Pineapple Thief had jalapeño shining through and through for real. Although being a bit too flowery, Doctor Zhivago surprised with the citrus bite. And the food… The patē was sublime. A bit too creamy for my taste but when it comes to patē there are so many variations and they are all good and all have their time. Tuna tartar was our next choice. Cucumbers, avocados make it all come together. The bread, though!!! We were finishing with sliders. Those sliders turned out to be not sliders! I’d say burgers. Not an overwhelming bread and cooked to perfection patty so juicy that you should slurp between the bite not to lose the juice and then swallow. And the ambience! Can’t wait to go...

The atmosphere is everything you’d hope for—warm, intimate, and just the right amount of eclectic. The food menu is small but mighty. Everything comes out fresh and well-portioned, ideal for grazing while sipping your drink.

There’s also a charming back patio that feels like a secret garden in the middle of Manhattan, and the happy hour deals are surprisingly generous for the area.

Experience started well with a knowledgeable and helpful server helping us to pick food and drink options. After the first round of food and drinks arrived on time it would be 20-30 minutes after finishing our food without a sign of our waitress. We finally stood up and had to go inside to find our waitress and request help. After another 5-10min of waiting, a separate staff member came to help and we put in another order of food and drinks. We continued to wait another 20minutes until our food came out, now having spent more time waiting then eating or drinking. None of the waitresses or waiters seemed to express any apologies for the amount of time we waited, either out of lack of care or unknowing. Finally, now late for an event we had scheduled after the dinner, we had to ask for the check on two separate occasions, again with no apologies from the staff. We quickly left having no time to argue or raise our issues with the staff. Will not be returning and urge others not to visit if you are in any time crunch for events after dinner/drinks. Overall, food and drinks were of good quality but the wait times certainly made this visit an experience I won’t be returning to.
