The Mary Lane (TML) scratches the heels of greatness. They are positioned as a mid-high cozy, boutique-style, American fare and the food is visually presented almost as a Michelin-grade. Their love for farm-to-table, Californian style dishes shines through well. And it is quite clear that whoever is running the kitchen absolutely pays attention to detail.
The mushroom tartare appetizer was absolutely gorgeous, both for the eyes and the palate. I was wondering how one would make a tartare out of mushroom but this minced patty was brilliant on top of a chip and cream dip. Just this one dish captured my heart.
The crudo was standard but the presentation gave it extra credit. The burrata was a bit disappointing, just because my expectations were so high at this point. The disappointment came not from the imbalance of the creation or invalid combinations. It was rather the selection of the type of burrata they used - a bit on the rigid side, which I thought was intentional but a miss.
The dry-aged ribeye was marvelous, especially at that price range. I would've removed a bit more of the fat on the side but either way, absolutely flavorful and hearty.
Finally, I ended the meal with an apple cake. What a wonderful treat - not too sweet and packed with flavor.
As I said, so many things are going right at TML. The fresh ingredients and the chef's efforts truly come across. Each dish is Instagram worthy. If you want to take your date to impress, TML is it. Plus the price isn't premium luxury.
I am so glad to have found this place. Please keep up with what you do. Will absolutely return.
ps. I think if you create your presentation in bite-size modules, it may be better. Many of the appetizers were difficult to put together, but more worrisomely, the diner doesn't put the right amount of ingredients scattered on the plate to create the perfect flavor balance. Why not just express the flavor the way you want...
Read moreI hosted a corporate event for 20 people at Mary Lane in their private room. While I pre-selected the menu, the food was super bland and warm dishes were brought out cold. People barely touched the shared plates of Brussels and carrots because quite frankly, they were gross and there were already carrots on our main plates, which the event manager failed to let me know. People had the option of steak or trout as their main. Another issue with this is people were expecting "trout", but it was "salmon", which is a type of trout, but it would have been good for them to be more transparent as folks wanted a white fish. The room is also beyond not appropriate for an intimate gathering of this size as the way it is laid out and due to the dimensions of the room, voices echo so no one could even hear the person beside them. It was also super hot with the room being so small and the coat check/customer service left much to be desired. I believe we had 2 servers. The restaurant did however apologize, but they only offered a 3% discount off their "operations fee" of 23% which is better than nothing I suppose but this amounted to only $102 off a bill that was over $4000. The max number they should have is 10 people in that room to at least be able to talk, which is the whole point of a private experience. Overall a super disappointing experience. Would highly discourage anyone from using this place for any...
Read moreWalk in through the cold barricading door and through the luxurious blue heavy fabric curtains and you will be greeted by a member of The Mary Lane staff. For us- it was Jo and she was lovely. Her level of hospitality was unparalleled - the sort of person that lives with a smile, joy and warmth. If Jo is having a bad day - good chance you won’t know it. 3 of us ordered the mushroom tacos and none of us were disappointed. Balanced seasoning with a delicious verde salsa, the mushrooms were tender but not soggy, the Brussel sprouts were shaved and not crispy and the black beans were appropriately seasoned so as to not overpower the other ingredients.
The avo toast was beautiful to look at with the chef using thinly sliced seasonal radishes to add flair to the imported avocados. Well done chef! It would be fun to create or take part in a Blackfoot Hospitality club that rotates between the other local restaurants in Blackfoots repertoire .
