I’ll start with the good. Location was pretty good- close to many attractions and food places. Guy at desk was okay. The problems however… 1. The cat. The cat was sweet and awesome and could be seen as a plus, however there is no warning that there will be a cat. Luckily, I’m not allergic. Why would a cat live there? One answer- pest control. He’s doing a good job, though, since I didn’t see any mice. They could do something to help the cat litter smell on the third floor- really stinks. He definitely thinks he owns the place and let himself into our room when I opened the door. Not a problem for us, but it should be disclosed to customers in case of allergies. 2. No elevator. No warning. I have a bad back from a car accident and they put us on the 5th floor. We had to climb to the 5th floor with all our luggage without warning or assistance. 3. The shared bathrooms are fine, I guess. We knew they would be shared before we got there. However, I’m not sure how often they are being cleaned as there was a towel on the floor outside of the shower before we got there that never moved from that spot our entire stay. The person I went with claimed a cockroach came in through the drain while he showered. He later claimed to see two more in the washroom. 4. The room itself was fine- it was rough but it was fine. The little kitchenette was nice and the air conditioning unit definitely worked. However, when I got there I checked the bed (as I should) for bed bugs. I noticed a bed bug encasement on the mattress and I saw black dots- which is bed bug poop. It could easily have been on the inside and I didn’t see any bugs outside of it with my own eyes. It looked safe, although we kept our things away from the bed just in case. After we left, I found 6 bed bug bites on my side. They aren’t super infested, but they definitely have bed bugs. I, myself, will not be staying here ever again. If you choose to take this place due to the cheaper price, beware as you will get what you pay for.

Hotel 309 Location, Location, hotel 309 is an older style hotel located in the heart of Chelsea. Close to subways local landmarks and attraction along with various food and beverage venders. Which is the true highlight of this accomodation. Hotel 309 has a various amount of private rooms with bath rooms and private rooms with shared bathrooms along with a safe security system from the lobby to your room, however it’s a STAIRS only hotel so all luggage must be hauled up the steep stairs at the hotel to your room. The common area was open and quirky. The stay I had the lights flickered through the corridors with a stench of urine and marijuana. The shared bathrooms seemed irregularly cleaned with roaches in the drains. The rooms where a bit of a let down again with cleanliness, I found the staff to be inconsistent with my stay. Asking some simple questions regarding my stay that they couldn’t answer. Which could be down to training. There is a resident cat that walks the hall which I’m unsure if his job is vermin control. Which catches you by surprise if you aren’t expecting it. This is a budget hotel however still being in New York is quite expensive. So be prepared, The main highlights for this stay is location and price, Safe travels

The photos online are extremely misleading. This place clearly hasn’t been properly cleaned in years. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with a strong smell of marijuana Things only get worse once you’re in the room. There are no basic essentials like washcloths, soap, or shampoo. The room is infested with roaches, the walls are filthy, and the overall hygiene is unacceptable. The smell of urine lingers throughout the hotel, and everything feels like it hasn’t been maintained in ages. For the price we paid, we could have stayed somewhere much better. I just checked in tonight after traveling from Canada with my kids, and we still have another night booked. I don’t know where else we can go at this point, but this experience has been incredibly disappointing.

Stayed here in 2018 but never wrote a review. It has an old charm to it and is in the heart of chelsea but the place is kinda dingy and not well kept (landlord special hotel haha). The bathrooms are shared and my mother and I brought bleach and cleaned it ourselves before using it because the bathroom had a musty urine odor that didn’t fully go away even after the bleach. It had that truck stop bathroom smell where so many people has used it that the smell just stays. I wore flip flops in the shower because i wasn’t comfortable going bare foot. (BRING SHOES FOR SHOWER!) The beds were comfortable and clean as far as I remember. I was just so happy to be in NYC for the first time that nothing really mattered! You can tell that maybe some people are tenants there. not sure if i’m true but it seemed like some people may have lived there?? or stayed there for a extended time like months and my mom actually pointed that out to me at the time. not that it matters, just a observation! If you need something in a pinch this will work for you but if you want a fully comfortable experience i would go elsewhere and just pay the extra money. there was no breakfast. the lobby is very small. It was $403 for 3 nights but that was 2018 idk how the prices are now. Location is the best part of this stay, accessible and walkable to everything! this is a true 3 star hotel but I have to rate it a 2 because i’m big on cleanliness and then the cleaning isn’t up to par I cant fully enjoy my stay. BTW it only has stairs NO ELEVATOR! so if you are disabled reconsider or plan...

Horrible experience. The pictures on their website are misleading. The hotel does not look that good. I arrived and rang the doorbell but had to wait outside for 15 min in the rain before someone buzzed me in. The front desk guy was rude, he did not even say hello or apologize for the wait. He asked for my ID and credit card. When he was done, he just threw them on the counter without a word. Then he told me my room was on the fifth floor with no elevator. I had to climb the stairs with my luggage. The room was dirty and the window wide open, even though it was a cold day. The sheets and covers were like rags, and the pillow and mattress uncomfortable. The heater in my room did not work. When I tried to call the front desk, no one answered.I was shivering all night, their so called blankets were so thin they were no good. I did not know I had to share the bathroom. It was ridiculous having to take your key and put your shoes on to use the toilet. The bathroom was nasty, as was the breakfast lounge. I came in and found two girls sitting there smoking. There was an open bread loaf on the counter and bread crumbs all over the floor. It was so nasty I did not even eat. When I told then the heater in my room, the staff was rude and would not help. The manager had the nerve to ask me what country I was from. He was the rudest human I ever saw.Do not waste your time and money...
