I had heard about a new Korean bbq place that was right next to an H Mart in Flushing. I think that most people would probably write it off since the area seems to be saturated. The location on Union Street is actually more closer to Main Street (whereas the concentration is usually around the Murray Hill area that is further up Northern Blvd).
First off, the name is so fitting and perfect for a Korean bbq restaurant. It embodies the essence of the experience for kbbq...you meet up with friends and family and feast on endless meat. The outdoor dining scene that has been in place for months is executed very well here (NO INDOOR DINING).
There is a custom built structure that is decorated very nicely with Christmas lights and has been fortified for colder days as well. The inside is pretty warm because they sealed off the back from drafts. There are a few nice sized heaters that you might see at a club and they are positioned at certain points in the dining area.
The seating consists of several foldable tables and chairs. There are some tables that have very sturdy wooden chairs. Each table has a plastic covering and it’s own bottle of hand sanitizer.
The sidewalk in front of the restaurant is very spacious so there is no fear of any vehicles that might drive close by!
The menu has been designed to showcase the different meats they offer. The first four selections are the Well known thinly sliced brisket, top blade steak, marinated short rib and beef bulgogi. The second set consists of pork belly, thin cut pork belly, marinated pork belly, pork shoulder and pork jowl. The third meat section consists of spicy chicken, jerk chicken and sesame soy chicken.
There is a section with stews ( kimchi tofu, soybean paste and soft tofu ). The sides section have the ever popular steamed egg, white rice and chicken congee (porridge).
The marinated pork belly is one of my all time favorite dishes there. The brisket is always a must for any kbbq spot. The jerk chicken option is very unique as there is no other bbq spot that offers the dish. The chicken porridge is perfect for chilly nights. Each dish is cooked inside and then brought out to the table and the plates are literally sizzling!
My favorite bon chon include the house made kimchi and potato salad. I have to remind myself to not follow up on sides before the main entrees arrive. The ingredients are all so fresh.
If you need some alcohol with your bbq they have different soju flavors and beer bucket deals. They recently added some hot drinks to the menu which include a baileys hot chocolate and a hot toddy (non alcoholic versions available).
Besides the great food, what makes Meat Me stand out is the excellent service. Behind every great business is a dedicated group of people. The owner Jerry (I do not know his proper Korean name) is always so welcoming and upbeat when I dine in. The staff consist of very hard working people who consistently deliver top notch customer service. Special mentions go to Janet, Hera, Hailey, Morgan, Gi Yeong, and several others whom I do not know their name. But they all work together and make sure things run as smoothly as possible. Much respect to them.
The price is roughly the average of all you can Korean bbq in the area ($29.99) and offers great food and service that make this a great...
Read moreAs of June 2023, my heart belongs to a new culinary champion - the Meat Me BBQ, nestled in the vibrant and multicultural neighborhood of Flushing, Queens. A barbecue spot that takes the concept of Korean BBQ to new heights with its all-you-can-eat offering, catering to both my palate and my unquenchable appetite for well-marinated and perfectly grilled meats.
Beyond the common side dishes found at most Korean BBQ establishments - such as the traditional steamed egg, rice, and kimchi stew, Meat Me BBQ truly differentiates itself with some unexpected, yet utterly delightful additions. Tater tots, for instance, provide a comforting and tasty option that pairs surprisingly well with the Korean flavors. And the deep-fried pork jowl is a showstopper - each bite exploding with succulent juiciness and rich pork flavor that leaves me craving for more.
The meat selection, as you'd expect from a place with such a name, is admirable. Although I've yet to try everything on their extensive menu, the brisket and short ribs have already won me over. The brisket, thinly sliced and boasting a beautiful marbling, cooks up to tender perfection, while the short ribs, with their rich, beefy flavor, are simply a carnivore's delight.
What truly amplifies the dining experience at Meat Me BBQ is their attentive service. They handle the grilling for you, a boon for those less experienced with Korean BBQ cooking. The staff is constantly making sure everything is going smoothly, refilling your sides or changing your grill plate, which adds a touch of comfort to the overall feast.
And let's not forget the social aspect of the place. Its vibrant and lively atmosphere makes it an excellent venue for gatherings with friends. After all, good food is best shared, and the collective experience of savoring the delicious fare at Meat Me BBQ creates memories as delightful as the food itself.
So if you find yourself in the Queens area, or even if you're just a foodie in search of a unique dining experience, Meat Me BBQ is one spot that shouldn't be missed. It's an unforgettable journey into the hearty, savory world of Korean BBQ, where every visit is a food festival that's sure to satiate your cravings for bold and...
Read moreI have been a regular at this KBBQ place for years because of the great food and pricing they offer but my most recent visit was very disappointing and I don’t think I’ll be going back. I brought my family out for dinner to this place for their first time to celebrate my little brother’s birthday because he loves eating KBBQ and the visit was quite disappointing towards the end.
To my knowledge, an AYCE place should keep serving you and allowing you to order as long as you finish the food, is still within the seated time, and they haven’t closed yet. Me and my family were seated at 7:11pm and at 8:44pm when we wanted to order one more plate of beef brisket for my little brother, we were told by our server (who had to ask another person, they discussed something in Korean so I do not know what they said) that we can not order anymore. Their maximim dine-in time is 2 hours by the way and they were definitely not near closing time yet. We finished all our food as well and did not waste anything.
No explanations, nothing, just a straight up “No more” and walked away when we started to ask them why. Before this, they also brought us our check when we didn’t ask for it yet, as if telling us it’s time to go when we still had well over 30 minutes left. I’m not sure who gave those orders but I wasn’t about to start an argument with the servers who was just doing their job so I still gave a good tip. But I definitely won’t be coming back again and I will not be recommending this place to my friends and family anymore. This visit has truly been disappointing for us when it was supposed to be a happy celebration.
Edit; Since Google does not allow you to reply to a owner’s responses to a review I will edit and reply here. We were a number of 5 and we had a reservation for 7pm on Saturday night under the same name. We were seated down and placed our order at 7:11pm because that is the time printed on of my receipt. I do not remember what the server looked like...
