Went there the other day and had the WORST experience I’ve ever had with the waitress, or hostess I should say. To clarify, I’ve been in the server industry for many many years and I really understand how emotionally taxing this job is. However, being rude to your customers is not okay. To start, when I walked in I sat in a table and was briskly asked (without a hello, kindness or explanation) to move bc no one can use that table. Which is fine, I obliged. Later when I was being waited on, I said I would like black coffee and I was unsure if I should have this or that. The waitress immediately turned on her heel and just left me talking to myself, while muttering that I should call her back when I’m ready to order. Again, just plain rude. Anyway, when I’m my coffee arrived, she briskly pulled a curtain and enclosed me in my table without saying a word. Which was just unsettling and invasive because I was just confused as to why she was doing that, especially because everyone inside was vaxxed (she asked everyone for proof) and there were already plexiglass walls between booths. I think if she would have just taken a second to communicate what she was going to do and what the regulations at the restaurant were, I would have felt much more safe and content. As a side note, there were signs in the booths ONLY in Spanish, saying customers could only stay a max of 45 minutes. Which I feel should have been directly communicated to me before ordering, because I don’t think I would have stayed. After dining, I packed up my things and decided to take a walk around the stores and take picture of this beautiful antique diner. I made sure not to take pictures of anyone, because I would not want to do that without their consent. The waitress asked me if I needed anything, to which I responded that I just needed the check. I continued to casually take pictures, and as I was taking pictures of some signs, she tells me I am making her uncomfortable. I tell her I don’t understand why she feels that way, because I am not taking pictures of her or of anyone in the store, to which she raises her voice and kicks me out of the restaurant. I of course felt hurt and offended, but I proceeded to pay my bill and when I had grabbed all of my things went up to her and said that I felt she was incredibly rude in every interaction that we had had, and there was no reason for her to have treated me so poorly. Not only as a customer, but as a person. I said she really needed to work on her tone and attitude, then I left. So overall, just feel really disappointed in this establishment and offended by this waitress. A diner is supposed to be a friendly and comfortable place, not a rude and...
Read moreAs a bus driver from South Jersey I take about 7 or 8 trips into New York City every year and usually will not even think of trying to find some place to park the bus while I grab a meal so I will just pack a lunch and eat wherever it is that I parked. This past month I have taken 3 trips into the city but because I did not have a chance to pack anything on the third trip but knew where I was going to park and looked on-line to see if there were any diners nearby that I could grab an inexpensive meal. Since I had heard o some places in NYC where you would spend $30 just for a sandwich I was a little concerned. Looking at the reviews on Google maps I thought the New York Diner sounded like it might be just what I was looking for and since it was a short walk from where I would be I decided to give them a try. Upon walking in I was told to sit wherever I would like to and since there was only one other couple in there I was also concerned that I might have made a mistake since it was only 1:00 PM. As I scanned the short menu I was also a little concerned that it was not the typical South Jersey Diner menu that had all sorts of things on it for you to hose from but was rather limited in it's selections. I guess that made it easier for me to make a quick decision on my meal which was I think called a Mexican Chicken Wrap or something to that effect. The young lady who took care of me was very pleasant while taking my order and then paid attention to my progress as she was busy with other things in the diner. While there only one other table was seated but there were a few people who came in for take-out so I'm guessing they probably have a cast of regulars that keep them in business.
The diner is rather small with maybe enough seating for about 35 people but I have no reason to say that it is a problem or that I would not come back here again if given the opportunity, maybe next time I could even bring another bus driver in with me if the trip was large enough to warrant two buses but not knowing if I will get the chance it...
Read moreNot friendly to us but definitely friendly to others...Being the only people of color in this Dinner we still tried to have a good time despite cold reception and stares upon walking in . Its LIC Queens we definitely did not think that's an issue but I don't know... .We smiled said hello good morning, all of that. We tried to get any ones attention. When we decided to seat ourselves we still waited 10 mins only to be asked is your order to go? Um no can we have a menu? The lady behind counter walked away. Finally somebody did come with a menu and then the unfriendly lady comes to take the order. We waited another 25 mins for our food which was just placed in front of us but was wrong order..I asked for an orange juice with my breakfast and got a hot bottle of expired tropicana no glass nothing.... Bottom line you get what you pay for at this little whole in the wall..Its a neighborhood joint but apparently not in tuned with the neighborhood it serves..
