I really wanted to like this place , the outside patio is a good vibe but the food was mediocre and i felt bad for the one server basically doing FOH by himself; seemed to be pretty mismanaged with the division of FOH labor .
I came here for a local low stress italian-ish birthday dinner meal, we ordered the olives and bread, the margarita anchovy pizza, and the chicken in a jar.
olives and bread -possibly the best thing ordered. it was super basic , the bread (a plain cooked pizza dough ) had rosemary on it which was a nice touch , and the amount of olives provided seemed like quite a lot . the portion sizesdidnt seem worked out
margarita anchovy pizza - now i knew going in ordering this it was going to be salty, and i like anchovy and capers ; but it was a total salt bomb seemed over salted and basically inedible
chicken in a jar - maybe i was expecting more; the herbs tasted good but the chicken was completely unseasoned no salt and was really bland aside from the herbs . if you sousvide some chicken and herbs with no salt thats basically what this was. edible but pretty mediocre. it came with an interesting sort of bread sort of like a pita to put the chicken inside , the bread was pretty good and fresh fwiw
TLDR: i would not recommend; menu items were totally imbalanced and didnt seem worked out. pizza was inedible . staff was friendly but not on top of things. lots of FOH just standing around and one guy was clearly overwhelmed doing everyone elses job
The issues i see unfortunately are likely a management issue from the top down. the whole time i kept thinking how much this place could benefit from someone like Jon Taffer going in to improve their business. it was not even half full on a prime warm summer saturday night and im surprised they've survived this long keeping...
Read moreThere’s much better Italian in Ridgewood, if you can call this place that. This is a cheap hipster imitation of Italian food with expensive prices.
It’s so rare that this is ever the case, but I just genuinely did not think any of the food items my friend and I ordered tasted good. The Aperol spritzes were watery as hell. The focaccia was a bland starter. We split the hot mess and tagliatelle entrees, both of which were bad/mid-tier. And both arrived to our table slightly warm, just shy of room temperature, so they became cold and gross pretty quickly. The hot mess simply was not tasty to me at all; the ingredients did not harmonize well together. The tagliatelle was OK, but again, eating cold pasta is not good. Friend was craving something sweet and the tiramisu didn’t deliver. It was overly bitter with way too much straight espresso powder and not enough thought put into the sweet part.
Atmosphere: it could’ve just been a one-time thing on the day we went, but we sat on the outdoor patio, and there was a very loud DJ dance party in the bar area downstairs. I had to shout to have a conversation with my friend. We opted to sit outside because the indoor dining area was hot as Hades with no AC.
You pay for an experience when you go out to eat, and this experience didn’t deliver. They should consider bringing in an actual Italian chef to advise on ingredients...
Read morePan Pizza, whew where do I start. I randomly stumbled upon Pan which is tucked away off a side block on the busy bouts of Wyckoff Ave in Bushwick. I was invited on multiple occasions by one of my girlfriends and always declined, and I regret every day I didn’t find out about Pan sooner.
The establishment itself is intimate, romantic, and cozy. It’s never too loud unless a band slides through for Jazz nights on Thursday, ultimate date night.
I kid you not, this is the best PIZZA IN BROOKLYN. When I’m telling you, authentic brick oven pizza (the owners are Italian), Pan is the spot to go to. The staff are beyond family at this point and have welcomed me as a regular with open arms. Rocco is AMAZING, and I just love whenever I come on his shift because I know I’m going to be taken care of. They have an array of different pizza toppings and unique pies from Thai Peanut to Crab. I feel like everyday is happy hour here because just like the food, the drinks are on point. My favorite thing about Pan is their consistency, my drinks and food never miss which is why I look forward to even solo dates with my laptop.
The ambiance is a luxury rustic, with two different dining areas, a bar, and two outdoor decks which made my summer this year. Aside from random nights with DJs, jazz bands, and movie nights, Pan is a neighborhood gem that everyone should make a home...
