I went to this location last night with two buddies of mine from work through heavy rain because they said it was a very nice bar to end our long day at work at. We were even happy to know that there was a comedy show happening. After buying a bottle of wine I went near the front to drink the wine with my work buddies. We were talking to ourselves quietly when a gentleman named Matt (who I was said told was a manager of phils.). if we did not quiet down that they would force us to leave.
Of course that soured the night for us since we came out to this place directly from work. The entire staff was pretty kind up until my interaction with him. To avoid any kind of problem further with the show my coworkers and I downed our wine as fast as possible and left. All of this happen in just 5 minutes of entering.
If you go to Phils just remember that if it's a comedy show they expect you to remain completely silent unless you laugh quietly so be aware of that. It does bum me out that in my neighborhood there is a place I wouldn't be suggesting...
Read moreI visited San Diego and had a fantastic meal with two friends. We ordered the Full Rib Dinner with Black Bean and Corn Slaw, Chicken Wings, Corn Bread, along with two beers and a cocktail.
I wasn't expecting much from the cocktails since they were reasonably priced, but they turned out to have a nice balance—not too sweet and just the right amount of alcohol. The ribs were incredibly tender and delicious on their own, but dipping them in the accompanying sauce took them to the next level. The Black Bean and Corn Slaw was a standout; I was genuinely surprised by how good it was—definitely a must-try side!
Even weeks later, I still can’t forget that flavor. The Chicken Wings were a bit spicy for my taste, but they were still tasty. The Corn Bread had actual corn kernels in it, which made it even better, and they were generous with the butter.
The portions were quite large, and we ended up taking some home, but I wish I could have finished it all! It was a great way to kick off my trip with such...
Read moreRacist bar! I’ve been in the area for some years and shared a few good experiences at this bar. The other day while hanging with friends, it was brought up that this space is not a fan of people of color and tonight I had my own experience. The bar girl was super disrespectful! She never greeted my friend or I but decided to tell us that “we needed to move over because her friend had a seat at the bar”… she never greeted us and it was a disgusting feeling.. if I had the time, I would have told her a word or two! I will never ever go back and btw, Filthy Diamond, which is a bar down the street is so...
