We had a delightful lunch yesterday at this new Greek restaurant. The décor was lovely and really transports you to the Greek isles with its traditional Greek blue and white color scheme, shutters, painted sidewalk and blond wood floors and tables. We were greeted as soon as we came in and the owner even came over to chat with us during our meal. We got:

Choice of 3 Spreads ($16): we choose the Tzatziki (cucumber yogurt dip), Kopanisti (spiced feta dip) and Eggplant dip. It came with toasted pita bread. Our favorite hands down among the 3 dips was the Tzatziki. It was tangy and creamy and yummy.

Pita Sandwich ($14): this comes in your choice of protein (10 options) and we got one each with Pork and Chicken Souvlaki. The sandwiches had tomatoes, onions, tzatziki and French fries. Very hearty and filling. We thought the Chicken Souvlaki was good, but we loved the Pork Souvlaki. We ended up ordering an extra stick of Pork Souvlaki meat as a result.

French Fries ($9): delicious, crispy and fresh. I wish it came with a dip but alas we had to make do with ketchup

Single Pork Souvlaki Stick ($4): perfectly grilled, smoky, tender pieces of pork. We ordered this because the pita sandwich didn’t have enough meat for our liking.

It’s nice not to have to schlep to Astoria for good Greek food. And soon they will have an outdoor patio area in the back of the restaurant. Another good reason to come...

A Hidden Gem That Transports You to Greece – Plateia GR

My family and I recently stopped by Plateia GR on a rainy afternoon for what we thought would be a quick lunch. Four hours (and four glasses of wine) later, we were still there—completely swept up by the atmosphere, food, and hospitality.

The ambiance at Plateia GR is something special. It has that relaxed, welcoming vibe that instantly takes you back to the motherland. From the décor to the music, everything feels thoughtfully curated, clean, and refreshingly authentic.

My wife and I started with a few brunch options, and before we knew it, we were sipping wine and savoring every bite like we had nowhere else to be. The menu is intentionally small, but that’s part of its charm. Each dish is crafted with care and high-quality ingredients, preserving the integrity of traditional Greek flavors while elevating the experience.

One of the highlights was chatting with the owners, who were kind enough to give us a tour of their outdoor patio project in the back. Even though it’s still in progress, you can already tell it’s going to be a dreamy little escape—a slice of Greece tucked right into the neighborhood.

If you’re looking for incredible food, warm hospitality, and a chance to unwind, Plateia GR is a must-visit. We truly enjoyed every moment and can’t...

I recently visited Plateia for lunch, and overall, it was a delightful experience with a few minor notes for improvement.

I started with the Chicken Souvlaki Sticks, which were fantastic. They use chicken thighs instead of breasts, resulting in juicy and flavorful skewers that really hit the spot. The accompanying tzatziki was spot on—smooth and not too overpowering, perfectly complementing the chicken.

I also ordered the Greek Salad. While it was decent, I felt it could be enhanced. I requested it without onions, and I think it definitely could have benefited from the addition of green peppers for some extra crunch and flavor. The tomatoes were cut a bit too small, which made them watery rather than fresh and vibrant.

The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, creating a lovely atmosphere. The service was attentive and friendly, which added to the positive vibe of the meal.

Given that Plateia is a new spot, I understand that they’re still fine-tuning their offerings. I’m looking forward to returning to see how they evolve and to try more of their menu. Overall, a solid...

We had such an incredible experience dining here after a movie night with my cousins — this Greek spot truly transported us straight to Greece! I started with the gyro platter, and the lamb was cooked to perfection — juicy, flavorful, and paired beautifully with the lemon potatoes. Then came the chicken souvlaki, served with warm pita and creamy tzatziki — each bite was a burst of Mediterranean flavor. We also shared a trio of spreads: eggplant (melitzanosalata), kopanisti, and tirokafteri, all served with fresh pita. It honestly felt like a concert in my mouth — rich, spicy, creamy, tangy — just wow. As first-time guests, the staff went above and beyond. Our waiter surprised us with a special final dish: tender chicken strips carved like beef gyro, and it was the perfect finish — juicy, savory, and deeply seasoned. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. We will be back someday!
