Prima will always have a special place in my heart. If you've been there in the last year or so, you've probably seen me. I'm often the first customer of the day and tend to work in the little nook next to the fridge. In some ways I'm embarrassed by my status as a regular (--some might even say loiterer). But it's hard to a resist coming back to a place that, along with having great coffee, really feels like a part of my community. Much if not most of that is due to the amazing baristas who, despite braving the insane rush that occurs as soon as they open and continues most of the morning, remain friendly and lighthearted throughout the day - even when unforeseen chaos ensues. (One time someone sprung 15 coffee orders on one of them.) I could single each of them out individually, but they are all truly so great and it would take all day and I should get back to work. ( I'm currently in the aforementioned nook procrastinating.) Just know that on any given day you are in good hands.
Anywho, tip these baristas well, and remember that the line moves pretty fast considering one person is making the coffee. People who complain about that can go to a starbucks or, god forbid, hungry ghost. Or, idk, dust off the french press you have stowed away somewhere in your clinton hill co-op if you're so worried about getting your coffee as quickly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is right around the corner from where I live, Iāve been coming here for years, since before it was Prima, it was primrose. Now I wrote this review from the front outdoor seating area, sipping on a tasty hot cup of drip coffee, eating a delicious chocolate chip scone. They have plenty of tasty pastries, which never disappoint, and the baristas that work here are friendly and approachable.
I feel grateful this cafe is so close to where I live. I also feel grateful that all manners of being are welcome hereā I can come to work and feel comfortable, I can come to socialize, to watch the birds, or the many people walking down Greene ave. I appreciate that itās typically poppinā.
My only wish is that the back and front outdoor seating areas be made more comfortable, with plants and flowers. Unfortunately itās been remarkably barren and it need not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to love this place when it was called Primrose! Iāve spent many hours and a lot of money here. But when the new owners took over, the attitude changed and the coffee got worse. And now the baristas are all mean. I often say āgood morning, how are you?ā and am met with a blank stare if Iām lucky. Itās this quiet hostility thatās honestly unsettling as a patron. Such a shame too because the place is very cute. The pastries are incredibly overpriced for what they are, go down to Otway for better value (canāt believe Iām saying that, they donāt need the promo.) Also the hours are a joke, what kind of coffee shop opens at 8am? Thereās always a group of people waiting outside at 7:55am confused why theyāre not open.
Shame to see my favorite neighborhood spot go downhill so quickly. Avoid, there many other better options in the...
