I came here today with my wife and two children for brunch. This was our first time as we wanted to try the food based on reviews we read. Needless to say this was the first and last time we will be coming here. First let me say the food lived up to the reviews as it was great. We all really liked our food. The issue was the horrendous service starting with the hostess. When I arrived, and told her a party of 4 she was hesitant to sit me at the only 4 person table available. Even after I confirmed I had a reservation. Then towards the end of our meal we were asked repeatedly by the hostess, waitress and busboy if we were “almost done” then when we were finally ready to pay and leave I was in the middle of signing the receipt the hostess felt the need to again ask me if we’re we’re almost done. Even after I replied “yes we are paying” she again thought it was appropriate the tell me “well I need to move this table over there” this prompted myself and my wife to tell her she needed to wait until we got up. I have never seen such rude service, rushing us out when we not only had a reservation but spent good money trying their establishment. Rule #1 of hospitality is you don’t rush or be rude to a paying customer. What is worse is for all their rushing, there was not 1 person waiting to be seated and multiple other tables open. On top of us having to eat our meal listening to the waitress complain to someone about the tip another table left. It’s pretty clear why people do not feel the need to tip well here. It doesn’t matter if the food was good, my family and I will not return here again. As locals who live right on Ditmars Blvd, we will make sure all our friends and Astoria knows about...
Read moreI would normally give this place a better rating, however there’s a very big difference in the food quality when the chef is not there, like earlier today.
The Burrata Salad is normally extremely well balanced and delicious. The last 2 times I went there and ordered it though, there were issues. Last time the bacon was disgusting, it tasted leftover and like it had been sitting in rotten grease. Too many strawberries, not enough arugula, too much balsamic glaze. This most recent time, no pistachios, waaaaay too many strawberries, not enough arugula, bacon tasted better but leftover from the morning, and waaaay too much balsamic glaze. It should be a keto-friendly salad but the strawberries tasted sweetened and the glaze also too sweet. No balance to the salad at all. The balance was what I fell in love with, because it normally hits all the right spots and leaves you feeling very satisfied. I do Not recommend eating there when it’s just a bunch of Mexicans in the kitchen. I went to the back door to see who was cooking and sure enough the chef was not in.
This also applies to any other item you order from the kitchen. It’s just NOT done right and turns what should be a wonderful experience into a meh or regretful experience- especially bc this place is quite pricey.
The Cacio e Pepe is excellent, but again, not the same experience when the chef isn’t there.
If this keeps up they will certainly lose regular customers. Very...
Read moreThere coffee is good. There food is good (though slightly over priced) Place itself is pretty nice. It's a shame that the staff seem to have a hard time being polite. I live down the street and have been here a number of times, and there are only two employees that I have encountered here that are nice. The rest seem to have some problem with having to talk to other people or be generally courteous. One girl reluctantly took my punch card and, because she was way too busy talking to another employees didn't give it back. When I asked for it she was absolutely offended as if I had done something wrong. They are either too busy not paying attention to you or too concerned with their gossip and it always results in them being rude. I'm not asking for full on conversations or for them to ask me about my life, I worked in fast food through high school and college, I get it, but slap a smile on and look your customers in the eye when your taking their order and money. It's not a lot to ask for. I don't care if your friends have come to visit you at work to talk about the acting gig you guys have lined up. They are interrupting you from your job and in turn interrupting me from getting on with my day. Honestly if there was another cafe with coffee this good on my way to the train I would happily go there. I'm seriously considering going to Starbucks. Sorry for the 2 stars 60 Beans. But this has been a problem...
