My friends and I traveled to Tru Astoria from out of town with a group of 10+ for our friend’s birthday in hopes of having a pleasant experience here at Tru sadly that wasn’t the case. We were at their establishment for over 3 1/2hrs. Service was slow but, we initially understood for the most part due to the number of ppl in our party however, the waitress rolled her eyes constantly whenever she was reminded of drinks not being received after an hour. She never checked in on us only came over when flagged down. Our food (appetizer included) came out well after an hour and half, no one complained we just tried to keep the mood positive for our friend. The food wasn’t bad, the Chef made rounds and was pleasant. However, we brought a cake in and when we requested for it to be brought out it took almost 40mins. The waitress initially said it would be a while, which I only assumed maybe it was being cut but that wasn’t the case. The manager came over as most of our guest had paid and left but 4 of us remained and we told her the cake still hadn’t come out. She went back to checked and a Man from the kitchen came out, pulled my friend aside and told her her cake was tilted upon arrival (which wasn’t true) and my friend annoyed said she’s put it back in the box, I’ll take my cake home. They instead brought sparklers a sign (spelling her name wrong) and her cake dented, slanted, facing us. We told the manager the top of the cake box was see thru and we by no means brought in a dented cake. She inquired w/ her staff and comped the bill for $80. She was straight to point and we appreciate her but there is clearly a disconnect between her the staff. Mistakes happen we understand but the staff lied. When I went to the bathroom, the waitress (lacking awareness) asked the guy in the kitchen what happened to the cake he said he placed it in the refrigerator and he cake got smashed by items!!!! Yet he came out and said we brought it in that way. The lack of accountability and direct lies told me the character of this place isn’t too sound. We didn’t eat the cake, we didn’t know what happened and didn’t want to chance it. Ruined my friend’s birthday!

$15 Bottomless Brunch Cannot Be Beat! A friend and I visited Tru Astoria this weekend for brunch and had a 5-star experience. Firstly, I recommend using OpenTable to book a reservation beforehand, because while there was a line inside the restaurant, I showed up for my 1PM reservation and we were sat right away. It's 2018, learn how to work the system! Food choices are typical for a brunch location, with a few notable standouts such as the MASSIVE chicken and waffles, which I've included a picture of - along with the crab cake eggs Benedict. You get a lot of food for a fair price. I actually took home leftovers and had them after the original "brunch itis" wore off. Let's get to the main reason why we all frequent brunch: judgement free day drinking. Tru Astoria knocks it out of the park with a $15 bottomless brunch, which includes mimosas, Bellinis and Bloody Mary's. I samples (a few) of each and was presently surprised how they were all proper cocktails. The Bloody Mary's in particular packed a punch and came from the bar looking like a $12 cocktail on their own. Wonderful brunch spot. A true Astoria hot spot!

This was my first time at Tru, and let me tell you they did not disappoint! From the moment I walked in, Maria made me feel like a VIP seriously! I was beyond impressed, and her recommendations were spot on. For the appetizer, we went with the chicken and beef empanadas, and they were absolutely to die for. The beef empanadas weren’t your typical ones they had steak chunks, which I loved! The shredded chicken was perfectly seasoned. For my entrée, I had the steak Benedict, which came with a mangu croquette. I had never heard of it before and was a bit skeptical, but let me tell you—it was AMAZING! I wish I had some right now. Maria also kept the mimosas flowing literally refilling them every minute (I’m not even joking!). I absolutely loved everything about this place, and Tru will definitely be seeing more of me. I can’t wait to come back for dinner!

OH MAN, WHERE TO BEGIN! I save my reviewing for epic situations and this was one of them! 😟

Well, food was good our waitress was nice, BUT, first we had to ask for new appetizer plates because our plates had food stains and even small piece of food, no big deal, then our appetizer came after our food so we didn’t have much room, again no big deal we managed.

AND THEN! While CHEWING on a french fry, there it was! A ROCK! After a painful bite and analyzing the rock we place it in the plate next to the plate of fries (this was a plate with grilled octopus) and we then notified our waitress very nicely, because it’s not anyone’s fault that a potato probably came with a small rock embedded inside.

The waitress takes the plate where I placed the rock (cooked into potato skin) and the plate of French fries, she then comes back and says the chef TOUCHED IT and that it was not a rock but a piece of BEEF. We explain to her that’s it’s not and that you can see it’s cooked into the potato, she takes it back.

She returns again! This time, she says “THE CHEF CHEWED THE PIECE AND IT IS OCTOPUS”!!! Okay. I’m done. WHAT!?

Needless to say, we walked out upset but stayed very polite and even laughing a bit about the uncomfortable situation, we still left a tip (again, our waitress was very nice) the owner (assuming he was the owner) was not as polite he seemed very aggravated and even asked “okay we’ll what do you want to do now” which to I responded “I’m just letting you guys know”

I mean, if I was giving food to people I’d like to know if my produce may have some.. um surprises? 😟 sorry for the inconvenience sir....

P.s. I’m still waiting...

I love Tru and their menu. But yesterday I received the worst service that I have ever experienced. One our waitress told us her name was Demi but clearly on our receipt her name was Selva. She took our drink order and brought us the incorrect drink and dismissed the fact that it was the incorrect drink and responded “ well its bottomless regardless”. After that she went to three other tables retrieved the guest orders of food and deliberately walked around our table. I had to stick my arm out to get her attention so that we can place a good order after waiting 20 minutes.

After our food was brought to the table she never came back to see how was the food or if we were pleased with our order. My boyfriend had to follow her to the bar to ask for another round because she ignored us as we tried to wave and get her attention.

As she brought the final round and receipt the table tipped her and she debated the the tip as well as told us that the suggested tip that was listed on receipt was actually the required tip amount.

When expressing that we didn’t receive hospitable service she responded and said that she provided us with her best service possible.

I’ve never experienced this type of service not have I ever had a waitress give piss poor service and felt entitled to receiving a larger tip.

I love Trus location and menu but the service was terrible and isn’t consistent visit...
