Beware if you suffer from a food allergy:
I ordered two pies - one for me, and one for my wife. My wife has Celiac Disease, so she canât eat gluten. We have ordered from Rocco multiple times in the past with no issue, plus the pizza is pretty decent.
I ordered my wife a gluten free pizza with chicken and spinach (a concoction I donât like at all), and when the pie arrived, they had used breaded chicken as the topping. My wife cannot have the breading on the chicken (plus who puts breaded chicken on pizza?).
In any case, we were a little annoyed, but mistakes happen. I contacted Slice, the app I ordered through, that my gluten free pizza had breaded chicken on it, and therefore isnât gluten free. I simply wanted my money back for that part of my order, as my wife canât even eat it.
I was informed by Slice that Rocco said they received no special instructions, and therefore had âno ideaâ they needed to use breadless chicken. To be clear: THEY HAD NO IDEA THE GLUTEN FREE PIZZA NEEDED GLUTEN FREE TOPPINGS. Because of that, I was not refunded the $25 (gluten free pizza is expensive!), but I was given $10 back as a sort of... sorry, not sorry thing?
Long story short, if you order from them, and if you have any type of allergy, donât assume the employees are intelligent enough to understand anything. You have to spell it out, like you would a 6-year-old. Otherwise, how on earth would they know the gluten free pizza needs gluten free toppings?
To be clear, Iâm not mad at the mistake. Stuff happens. Iâm mad at the lack of accountability and responsibility in the mistake which was made. Itâs rather unfortunate too, since their pizza is not bad compared to other...
Read moreRocco Pizza is conveniently located in our neighborhood. They havenât been our âgo-toâ pizza spot, but theyâre there when we have needed a last minute meal. For starters, there have been 3 separate times that we ordered and found a 3-5inch long black hair in the food. This past Wednesday we had one of those nights where we needed a last minute, low effort dinner. We ordered a plain cheese pie, a Margherita pie, and garlic knots - nothing fancy. While eating the cheese pie we noticed that the bottom of the crust had a few spots that were super charred. I scraped one off and noticed that it had wings. There were flies burnt onto the bottom of our pizza. I almost threw up.
Getting a hair in your food is one thing, three times is a lot thoughâŠbut serving food with flies on it is disgusting. I understand that they have an open brick oven pizza, but for crying out loud they should always make sure itâs clean. We ate roughly half of both pies before noticing how âcharredâ they were. We are lucky we didnât get sick after eating God knows how many flies. We will NEVER order from this place again, and I recommend you donât either. Photos included showing 2 flies...
Read moreMiddle of the road, not bade, not great. Tried to order online using the "click to order online" feature of their menu page. It wasn't working, so I called direct. Placed my order, was told "sorry, no credit cards for phone orders, if you want to use a card, order through Seamless or some other service" Gathered enough cash for the fairly inexpensive 2 sandwiches and buffalo wings, plus fair tip. Food arrived in less than 35 minutes (3/4 mile from home), hot and correct. I'm not from NYC, so I may have a wrong impression of "Buffalo Wings" but I expect spicy and doused in vinegary hot sauce. These were batter fried chicken wings, with a very mild spice, served with ranch (no celery sticks). Not terrible, but kind of boring. The meatballs were (according to my dining partner) flavorless, my Italian Sausage Parmesan sub was nothing special, one way or another. Both sandwiches seemed small compared to other xyz Parmesan sandwiches we've eaten, but for under $6 they were about right...
