Seaport Buffet — Restaurant in New York

When going to a restaurant, the food is only half the experience. Great food with a terrible staff or manager can ruin even Gordon Ramsey's food.

This place is no different. I was there last night, not realizing the time. I was with a friend. We put a few things on out plates and sat down. Within minutes we were swarmed by the cleanup staff telling us to go get more food because they are cleaning out the buffet islands.

We had not taken more than 2 bites of what we already had. But nonetheless I asked if we were permitted to take a second plate since ours were still full. Yes yes please go was the answer.

So we did. We sat back down, and since we were in a 2 person table I put the other plates on the ledge of the wall near us. Those were removed and thrown in the trash.

Then the manager comes over, and tells us "You stupid people always come so late and make problems". This was the first (and last) time I have been here.

The manager was very rude and I told her as much, she told us rudely to leave. On our way to the door we were stopped and told to turn around and use the back door since they had already started mopping up the floor. While on that subject a few minutes earlier I slipped on some food on the floor near the buffet, thankfully I caught myself.

If I had been on a date and not a friend this evening would have been the date from hell.

0 stars for rudeness, the food was eh, nothing to write home about. Anything with dough was stale and hard (dumplings, wontons, soup dumplings). The shrimp was rubbery, and most of the trays were empty or nearing it with only the runty portions left over that...

Haven't eaten here in about 4 or 5 years.but recall it to offer a decent selection of dishes for a reasonable price especially at lunch. Know that prices have gone up considerably. Selection leans toward sea food but remember that most of the dishes were far from inspiring. Don't recall if clams,mussels or shrimps were offered ,but certainly no crab for lunch. Remember that sushi selection was poor and heavy on rice as opposed to raw salmon or tuna. Went there one holiday weekend and recall the long embarrassing wait with other diners to seize a few crab legs. Demeaning and unnecessary. Never had issue with attitude of wait staff or of management but do recall servers tending to observe you eating. Is it to prevent waste or to make sure you leave a tip. As recently as 3 years back I would eat lunch at buffet on Nostrand Ave in Aldi shopping center. Offered a great selection of dishes including soup,appetizers,cold and hot seafood,salads, chicken and beef entrees and a teriffic dessert section. Think price was $11.99 and there was a coupon in Bay News for $1.00 off your soda which meant you paid $1.00 for all you could drink. Was shocked to learn by opening Bay News that lunch is now $18.99 or $19.99. Dinner is now close to $30.00 on weekends. Are they serving crab or lobster? Know that a few years back they did offer crab legs for dinner.Am going to visit seaport for lunch in near future to see what buffet is...

My girlfriend and I wanted to try a buffet close by, so we found this place on google. It had 4 stars and several reviews that we should have taken the time to read carefully. PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW AND SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND MONEY!

I rarely if ever leave negative reviews, especially a small local business, but I feel like this is a necessary public service announcement.

We were escorted in very quickly and taken to a small booth, then offered drinks. We asked for plastic ware instead of silverware, and got a dusty spoon and fork. Then we got up to get our one and only plate of food. The food selection was pretty limited, with standard Chinese food available. I had some chicken teriyaki, boneless spare ribs, some white rice and egg drop soup. None of it had flavor. The meat was rubbery, the soup was gross, and the rice had no flavor at all.

My girlfriend had some shrimp and some oysters - she couldn’t stomach any of it. It was just not good and rubbery. We were in and out of there in 10 mins. The waitress noticed that we didn’t eat anything and asked if we didn’t like it, and we kindly apologized and told her that we didn’t like the food at all. She grimaced and said sorry; but that was it. No discount off our $51.25 tab or talk with the manager or anything.
