Sea Pearl Restaurant
Formal Complaint: Violations and Fines Summary (Brooklyn, New York State)
On october 27, 2024 , 19: 30 pm , as the camera recorded, I walked past a restaurant and asked for a plastic knife. Despite having lived in the neighborhood for 25 years, where many people know me, I was denied the simple request. I have visited this restaurant numerous times in the past, and such a refusal felt unjust. Denying this reasonable request violates basic human rights, as it is common courtesy to accommodate small needs for any visitor. Even entering a restaurant typically grants the right to use a restroom, making this incident even more unreasonable.
Furthermore, this situation escalated beyond just a refusal. I was humiliated publicly in front of people who have known me for many years, which caused significant emotional distress. The behavior reflects unprofessional business practices and personal miscommunication, undermining the principles of fair treatment.
Violations and Applicable Fines:
Discrimination in Public Accommodation: Refusing service without cause may constitute discrimination under the New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL). Fine: Up to $50,000, or $250,000 if found willful or malicious.
Harassment/Public Humiliation: Public mistreatment or humiliation of a customer violates NYCHRL. Fine: Up to $10,000, with potential civil damages.
Denial of Restroom Access: Restaurants with seating must provide restroom access. Fine: $500 - $2,000 per incident (NYC Health Code).
Unprofessional Business Practices: Refusing a small, reasonable request (such as a plastic knife) breaches the NYC Consumer Protection Law. Fine: Up to $500 per violation. Repeated offenses could lead to additional penalties or business closure.
This behavior not only affected me personally but also reflects poorly on the establishment’s standards. I request that the appropriate authorities review this matter and take necessary...
Read moreJust an awful experience with this restaurant. We had a big celebration with 45 people, however not only they forgot to make a space for our kids as we discussed but charged me for each apple juice for them, saying the kids menu which is $75 does not include any drinks for kids? Manager Tatiana was super rude, no communication with clients no understanding whatsoever. Apparently she told my designers to come pick up the balloon arch after being there for only 3 hours. We spent money on designing our celebration and they totally ruined it. They ruined the whole atmosphere as they were just not polite & walking around with mad faces. I came to the restaurant twice to make sure I am being heard and to discuss all little details however everything I asked for was ignored by Tatiana.
The food in the restaurant was amazing but there just 0 respect to their customers. No one tried to save the situation but only made it worse with their little comments and complaints. I truly believe the management has to do everything for customers to return but I guess they just don’t care.
I never write reviews and try to support all restaurant and find excuses but not in this case. I will make sure all my guests won’t come back to this restaurant. Please save your nerves and do your celebration...
Read moreBEWARE! MY WIFE AND I HAD FOOD POISONING AT THIS RESTAURANT. I am very unhappy with my experience at this restaurant, staff was friendly enough to offer us a table, Hookah master was great, and Hookah itself was great!
However, the food ordered was not served as asked. My 54$ fillet mignon was overcooked, over burnt and they charged for my side, but 6$ instead of regular 8$, which is the first time I ever had to pay for the side in my life. Secondly, my wife’s Salmon was dry, and mashed potatoes were not soft, as if it was cooked 2-3 hours prior to ordering, same goes to my vegetables, which were 8$, never was told that I would be charged for it, yet vegetables were raw, there were little specs of unwashed stones in salad dressing.
Lastly, how both my wife and I could have food poisoning if we never shared our foods? It is the warm eggplant salad, that we both shared.
To summarize, food was a poison, hookah was great, drinks were fine, but they charged us 20$ for the drinks that are listed for 19$ in menu. Also, this is the first time that non-cash adjustment is not a discount, but the actual price we had to pay. Such a rip-off experience, and I hope managers and owners of this restaurant see this review, and do their work properly to deliver service they charge 350$ for...
