My friend and I wanted to try this place because it was so pretty and we saw a lot of good reviews for it, but when we actually went this past Saturday we had a terrible experience and will not be returning back to this restaurant. So, basically my friend and I made reservation for 2:30pm, but we actually got there earlier at 1:50pm. When we arrived none of the workers were paying us any mind, but we figured it was because it was too early so we left and came back at 2:25pm. When we came back I literally stood in front of the doorway so they could see us and know that we needed to be seated. As my friend and I stood in the way the employee still decided to tend to a group of white girls that was next to us and they got seated. That was the first straw because like why would you respond to those girls when I was literally right in front of you and was waving to get your attention. Anyways, after that she finally decided to respond to us, and she said that she would seat us within in a few minutes. That ended up taking over 15 minutes for them to do, mine you it’s a small table not much to clean. Then finally the waiter tells us we can sit. When we looked over it was one of those high chair stools. I really don’t like those types of seatings. I wanted a seat with back support and also it wasn’t close enough get the whole aesthetic of the place in pictures. Which was our main point for coming to that restaurant. Also, we were right next to a bush that had a ton of flies. So, we asked to be moved to a seat that was not too far from where we were sitting, it had the back support, the aesthetic was more visible and there weren’t as many flies. The waiter told us that if we wanted to be moved we would have to wait, so we waited. She asked us to go back to the seat that we were given until they clean the table that we wanted. This took another 15 minutes. They cleaned a table for another white man and his friends that came AFTER us and then they also cleaned two other tables before ours. At this point it’s like 2:50 . Finally the waiter comes over to us to take our order and I was like “Can we move now that the table is clean?” She wanted to pretend like we didn’t ask to move before. She was like “yeah, of course” so as we are about to get up this white girl sits down in the seat we wanted. At this point my friend and I were infuriated. So now the waiter goes “I don’t know what’s going on , no one is communicating!” then she walks away instead of trying to help us. Now my friend and I go up to the white girl on our own and we explain to her that we were supposed to be seated there and she was actually super nice about it and said she would switch with us. At this point, my friend and I were upset , fed up, hungry , tired, embarrassed , etc . So we started discussing if we should just leave or not, these two girls over heard us and they were like yess we should go ! I guess because they witnessed how bad we were being treated or the food wasn’t that great. There was also another young black girl that was being ignored as well ! Long story short If you are black, don’t go to Short Stories ! You only get treated like a human being if you’re white or if your Black dressed up with some 6 in heels. If you look young and dressed casual they think you can’t afford the restaurant or won’t tip which is wild to...

Short Stories is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary paradise that has completely redefined my expectations for what dining out can be! From the moment you meet Ilan, Chef Raph, and Ashley, you're transported into a world of gastronomic excellence and unparalleled hospitality.

Let's start with the food - it's nothing short of extraordinary. Chef Raph is INSANE and every dish is a masterpiece, blending flavors and textures in ways that will make your taste buds dance with joy. I'm blown away by the creativity, quality, and sheer deliciousness of everything I've eaten.

The service? Impeccable. The staff aren't just servers; they're culinary guides, passionate about the food and eager to ensure you have the best possible experience. Their knowledge and enthusiasm are infectious, making each interaction special and personalized.

The atmosphere of Short Stories is both trendy and comfortable and totally on par for NYC. The cool vibes make it the perfect spot for a night out with friends, or even a solo dining adventure. It's the kind of place where you want to linger, savoring not just the food but the entire experience. I could literally watch the disco shark ALL night!

However, what truly elevates Short Stories to legendary status are the owners. Their dedication to excellence, creativity, and customer satisfaction is evident in every aspect of what they do. They're not just running a business; they're crafting unforgettable experiences for their patrons. Ilan, Chef Raph and Ashley are three of the best people I've meet in the business and I cannot recommend working with them enough.

Their attention to detail, flexibility, and commitment to bringing my vision to life is unmatched. They listened to every request, offered brilliant suggestions, and delivered a menu that left nothing to be desired. They don't just meet expectations; they shatter them and set a new standard that's hard to beat!

In conclusion, if you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience and a night out with great vibes, Short Stories is the answer and I cannot recommend them...

I enjoyed grabbing a drink here years ago but went recently and had the worst bar experience during my 7 years of living in NYC. We were greeted by a man who opened the door for us and asked our age-- we assumed he worked there/was going to ask for our ID. It turns out he was a patron and friendly with the bar staff but was not currently working/on the clock. The bar staff let him joke around behind the bar which I find extremely unsafe as I would not want someone making my drink who is not working there. Unfortunately another man spilled 2 drinks on my friend and myself, which is at not fault to the bar staff. The man then went to touch me to help dry me off and I asked him to please not touch me and move away so we could cleanup. Later however, the bar tender came over and accused me of harassing other patrons and pointed to the same man who had spilled the drinks. Do NOT come to this bar especially if you are a woman as you don't know who is making your drink and it is clear that the bar staff do not have a handle on the crowds and/or patrons' safety...

Brunch here leaves much to be desired. Here are a few things that could be better: 1. Sell coffee. Three people asked for it from separate tables, including my own. They don't offer it. 2. Improve wait times for food. We had a reservation at 11:15, which is the first one upon opening. We didn't get our food until 12:20. 3. Remove the breakfast platter from your menu, or make some large improvements. Ex: toast is served, but there is no jam/jelly. The presentation was also sloppy (see photos). 4. Install a mirror in your bathroom. It's sad that I have to write this, but it was incredibly irksome. I wish 2.5 stars was a thing, because that's what Short Stories brunch deserves. Cameron, our server, is the only reason I rounded up. We could tell he was used to being asked about the coffee and the jam but powerless to change it. Also, the chocolate chip pancake was AMAZING and the spicy margaritas were good (not sure about "best in Bowery", but they were tasty). Overall, I can't say I'd recommend this place until they correct the items listed above.

We stayed here in May for our daughter's Law School graduation from USC. She lives locally so we were pleased to stay at such a cute boutique hotel. Room was perfect, well kept by the maid service we had (envelope in room said Anna, although we never met here, the room was extremely clean) Bed very comfortable, grounds exactly as pictured, no smoke and mirrors here! Check in was simple and they knew we were in for our daughter graduation so the next day we had a congratulatory card, balloon, fresh baked cookies (what a surprise and very sweet) Spent a lot of time at bar/restaurant and the people were so welcoming. Bartender Jeremy and server Kat made the experience perfect. Chef made some amazing tidbits. LOVE their bread, Broccolini with lemon and toasted breadcrumbs just to name a few. Right across from the framers market and an iconic breakfast spot DuPars (fabulous). next to farmers market is the Grove also an Iconic spot. Great experience throughout. Will definitely stay here when we visit our daughter in the future.

We had a wonderful time at Short Stories yesterday! From the first bite to the last sip, every moment was perfect. The menu has a bunch of tasty options. The Lobster ravioli and Parker House rolls were top-notch, and it's cool that they make everything in-house! The plates are made for sharing, so we got to try a bit of everything. Even for someone not particularly fond of beef tartare, the way chef makes it there is irresistible. The octopus was tender and tasty, showing off the chef's skills. Choosing a favorite dish was tough, but I went with the Octopus—it was divine! The wine pairings were spot-on, and they even use fancy wine glasses. The atmosphere was cozy yet elegant, perfect for a great night out. The service was friendly, and the staff had a youthful vibe, making it a welcoming place. In a nutshell, our night was perfect, and we left super happy. This restaurant is now one of our favorites, and we're already planning our next visit. This place is a real gem!
