One thing I love about New York is that it’s a true melting pot, but when Google just says “Caribbean,” you’re never quite sure which island’s cuisine they’re referencing. Simply Caribbean specializes in Guyanese-style Caribbean food, which is slightly different from your traditional Jamaican or Haitian fare, though they share similar foundations like rice and beans, oxtail, curry dishes, and stewed chicken.
What makes Guyanese cuisine special:
Guyanese-style cooking features unique dishes like cook-up rice and chana (a delicious chickpea dish served with roti that’s also vegan-friendly). The flavors and preparation methods have their own distinct character within the broader Caribbean food family.
My experience:
• The cashier/worker was pleasant and friendly • Store was extremely clean - always a great sign • I ordered the oxtail roti and absolutely demolished it - so good!
If you’re looking to explore different Caribbean cuisines beyond the more common options, Simply Caribbean is definitely worth trying. The authentic Guyanese flavors and quality preparation make it a standout spot.

Read moreI recently visited Simply Caribbean with high hopes, especially for the seven curry. I had seen so many influencers rave about. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The curry lacked the flavor I was expecting from a traditional Guyanese seven curry. It seemed to be missing that bold spice blend that typically makes it flavorful.
The rest of the meal was just okay. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing really stood out either. The presentation was decent, and the portion size was fair, but the flavors just didn’t quite hit the mark.
On a positive note, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was casual and inviting, which helped make the experience a bit more enjoyable. I wouldn’t write it off entirely it could’ve been an off day but based on this visit, I’d say it was more average...
Read moreI found this place on Instagram and traveled all the way to Queens however when I got there the restaurant itself was very small it's a takeout spot. I came because they said they have 7curry that's the main reason When I got there they didn't have that they also didn't have roti and few more things so I got cookup with BBQ chicken when i got home the food taste stale, the curry goat was mostly bone and I only got like 5 pieces meat, My daughter ordered pumpkin and curry in the roti the server did not put the pumpkin nor the curry in the roti she put everything in separate containers, the cheese straw wasn't cheesy at all, the fried rice was good and well seasoned everything else was 1 star would not recommend...
