REVIEW FROM AN ACTUAL GREEK PERSON: friends and neighbors, it has been a very long time since I have found GOOD Greek food. My grandma passed in 2004 and she was an absolute magician in the kitchen. Her food was legendary and is still talked about to this day. So to say I have high standards would be an understatement. Nothing has come close, including most of the places I've tried in Astoria. That is why I am very glad to have found this new, incredible establishment in the neighborhood. It is located on 5th between President and Carroll. I ordered delivery from here a couple times - once the skirt steak and once the rack of lamb - and both times everything was so great that I decided to stop by in person. The flavors were phenomenal and everything was cooked perfectly. They even use the correct amount of lemon in their lemon potatoes (a ton). They also know how to make a Greek salad the way they do in Greece - no lettuce and a stack of vegetables with a big block of feta on top. And not only do they have great food, but they have beautiful decor, street seating, and a lovely little deck in back. I've been to other "Greek" restaurants in the neighborhood and the food and the prices are way off. This is truly the spot for authentic Greek and we are so...
Read moreWow, my friend and I were looking for a solid Greek spot and were so pleasantly surprised at how truly delicious this restaurant is. People are sleeping on it! If the lighting and table settings enhanced the ambiance a bit more, it would have been 5 stars but the food and service alone made it such a great experience.
We started with the beet salad which save for a heavy hand with the dried thyme was so so good. There were equal amounts roasted carrots with the beets and topped with goat cheese crumbles and toasted almonds. Simple, but done so well.
I ordered the lamp chops medium and sort of regretted that temperature, fearing they’d be overcooked. I’m so glad I was wrong. The dish was superb. The chops were seasoned well, cooked perfectly and complemented by a tart and savory lemon potato and tender asparagus.
The service was impeccable and very sincere. Our server was so friendly and genuinely seemed interested when she checked in on us. Our waters were refilled fastidiously, plates cleared quickly and discreetly and even the (maybe?) manager or owner checked in on us a few times in an unobtrusive and genuine way.
Seriously, don’t sleep on this place. It’s so delicious and the service could not be better. I’ll see you there because we are...
Read moreCame here to celebrate a birthday tonight and we were all blown away. I'm vegetarian, so don't naturally go for Greek food, but there was plenty to like. Everything I've tried was very high quality and delicious, and my meat-eating family said the same. For appetizers, we tried the assorted spreads platter, grape leaves, and spanakopita. For mains, the horiatiki & marouli salads, the salmon entree, and the lamb souvlaki platter, and a falafel side. Portions were generous, food was fresh and just incredibly good - even the simple-sounding salads were extremely satisfying (and horiatiki with a big block of feta on top - just like in Greece! And not your supermarket feta, but the good stuff). The falafel was so much better than falafel I've eaten elsewhere; it wasn't heavy or greasy, but kind of delicate and so flavorful. For dessert, we really enjoyed the bread pudding. Great Greek wine. In addition to the seats out front, there's also a nice patio in the back. Staff were nice, even offering water to our dog. All in all, a superb experience, and I'm stunned why there aren't crowds at the door - this is truly excellent food, and good value considering the...
