I'd like to preface this review by emphasizing I never write reviews like this. However, the host at Brooklyn Burgers & Beer was so unnecessarily hostile to me, my partner, and my friends last night (4/30) that I have no choice but to speak up.
As the host was seating us last night, she immediately asked if we were planning on drinking. Our party gave halfhearted yeses and maybes because we werenât sure if we wanted to drinkâwe had barely all sat down at this point and didnât even have menus in front of us yet. She followed this up by asking for our IDs. Two of us had IDs and two of us didnât. That was fineâwe werenât all planning on having a drink anyway. However, at this point, she warns us that we canât buy drinks for our two friends who donât have ID. We know this. For context, weâre all pushing 30. Iâve personally worked in restaurants for 6 yearsâat both Michelin star restaurants and for one of the top restaurant groups in NYC. None of us were planning on breaking the law. We were simply hungry and above all, wanted to eat burgers and fries. At this point, we all look visibly confused and a little offended because she was effectively accusing us of planning to break the law within 30 seconds of us arriving at the restaurant. We affirm that weâre not planning on ordering drinks for our friends without IDs but she then proceeds to tell us, âplease donât argue with me.â Which we werenât. All we wanted to do was sit down and relax and eat burgers on a gross, rainy Sunday night. Instead, she attacked and accused us before we could even fully remove our coats and take our seats. Ultimately, we felt so uncomfortable and offended that we had no choice but to leave and eat elsewhere.
The type of behavior exhibited by the host on Sunday night was completely unacceptable. None of us had ever encountered such unprompted hostility from a restaurant worker in our entire lives. From my own extensive experience working in hospitality, I am well aware that as a host or a server, you never assume the worst of your guests. You never accuse them of unfounded things and you never attack them before they even have a chance to sit down and look at the menu. My friends and I did nothing to warrant the type of aggression we received so soon after walking through the doors of Brooklyn Burgers and Beer. We were all calm and mild-mannered with no intention of doing what we were immediately accused of doing. Itâs truly unbelievable that any of this happened at all. My partner and I have regularly dined at Brooklyn Burgers and Beer for the past two years. Weâve had nothing but positive experiences up until now. The staff before Sunday night was always friendly and welcoming and the food was always delicious. We brought our two friends along with us on Sunday night in order to introduce them to one of our go-to neighborhood restaurants. Instead, we were left shocked and embarrassed. Unfortunately, we donât feel comfortable dining here ever again. Sundayâs experience was so outrageous and offensive that our perception of Brooklyn Burgers and Beer is...
Read moreI've been coming here since the place opened, and honestly they have always had great burgers, maybe the best in the area. In addition I run an Airbnb and have routinely sent my guests to BB&B when they ask about somewhere to get a good burger. So I've sent literally 75-100 customers here in the last couple of years.
It is with great sadness that I write this review and am forced to give BB&B 1 star, and say that I will never be ordering from or recommending them again.
Tonight after ordering my usual, I went to pick up my food as I often do. However the woman taking payment was not the usual employee, I suspect she was the owner, as no employee would ever be as rude for fear of losing their job. She handed me my bag gave me the total and I offered to "tap" to pay with my phone as I had numerous times in the past. She informed me that she would prefer I use an "actual" card as she didn't want to have to go get the reader (it's literally a 15 foot walk) but I said ok I'll go out to get my wallet from the car. She said no, sighed and trudged off the 3 second walk to the register... I followed her so she didn't need to go back and forth but was told no we need to pay at the front. So back to the front we go. Then she refused to just put the card reader on the tablet to allow my phone to work properly... So we tried it once, but it failed. Then again, this time I have a completed transaction. But, she said no I don't see it it didn't work. So without thinking I say ok so I'll just go get my wallet, which I do, and hand over a $100 bill.
Even after this, whoever this person was continued to act as though she was doing me some kind of favor, being extremely rude in the process and causing chaos throughout the restaurant.
Finally I realized I should check my bank account before paying for the burgers twice. And there was the change plain as day. I showed it to her, she denied that it was a real charge so I demanded my money back, which they complied with, took my food and left. Following this they had the nerve to call me and threaten that they would "report" me for theft!
Bottom line - it's a shame but they have lost one very regular and t many many one time customers over this treatment. I'll miss their food, but if I never deal with this person again it will be too...
Read morePeople who know me know that I appreciate/LOVE a good deal!! This burger spot has GREAT burger combos near the Atlantic Barclay train station ESPECIALLY IN THIS TIME OF INFLATION! Burger and side combos range from $17 to $21. The sides are great and offer variety from tater tots, sweet potato fries, onion rings, Nathan's corn dog nuggets , side salad, five mac and cheese balls, and even spinach. The premium sides that come at an additional surcharge are things like truffle parm loaded fries. It's cool because for the side, u can even ask them to season it with old bay or Cajun seasoning for free. Loved the vibe. It's a GREAT DATE PLACE. BEERS are good. Service is great.
The only weird thing was my dates beef patty was a lot smaller than mine and was about 1/3 smaller than the bun. Maybe it's because of the fresh ingredients but just a general food quality comment. Meal was tasty regardless as my date scarfed it down. we both enjoyed our experience.
All in all, I would come again. There aren't alot of mom and pop shops that offer burger and side for around...
