Returning to The Smyth Tavern in Tribeca after some time felt like a rediscovery of an old favorite. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance struck the perfect balance between casual and sophisticated. The window banquette seating adds a cozy touch, while the bar and back dining area provide a more refined atmosphere for a full dinner experience. This visit was all about wine and appetizers with a friend, and we were in for a treat. We started with a bottle of rosé, which set the tone for a relaxed evening. Our first appetizer, the Brussels sprouts with bacon, was an absolute standout. The crispy bacon and perfectly caramelized top layer of the sprouts added an irresistible crunch, making each bite a delight. We also tried the deviled eggs;a classic dish, but I found the portion a bit small for the price, perhaps due to the rising cost of eggs. That said, they were still well-executed. The guacamole was fresh and enjoyable, though not the most memorable dish of the night. The highlight of our meal was the crispy tuna, recommended by our wonderful waitress, Yolanda. She was charismatic and professional, effortlessly upselling us on the wine while also guiding us toward this incredible dish. The crunchy texture on top combined with the flavorful sauce made for an explosion of taste..an absolute must-try. Another standout was the service. Dawn, the manager, was exceptional. She made her rounds, checking in on every table, ensuring that guests felt valued. Her warm and attentive approach elevated the entire experience. Overall, The Smyth Tavern has certainly stepped up its game since my last visit. The food, atmosphere, and service were all top-notch. While some prices might feel a little high, the quality and experience more than justify it....
Read moreI came here on a Friday night with a party of 8. We got seated late which wasn’t a big deal given it was a Friday night and they were busy. When we were seated, we immediately put in our drink, app, and entree orders. We got our drinks and appetizers over an hour later! Barley got checked on by our waitress. The apps were cold, and drinks were weak. I ended up going to the bar to complain about my cocktail, which they ended up making me a new one. When the food came , I was so disappointed . We waited so long and the food was subpar. We ordered the artichoke dip, yellow fin tuna, calamari, and oysters for apps. For the entrees we had 2 pasta dishes, burgers, and steak. Let’s just say shake shack makes better burgers . The service was incredibly slow, I did speak to the manager who came off as being a bit rude , because I mentioned to her how poor the service was. For a restaurant that has a large flow of patrons, management needs to do a better job with being fully staffed especially on a Friday. I did feel bad for the employees because they were overwhelmed. The manager did give us complimentary dessert only because I had to say something. The food items were not impressive. If at least the food made up for the poor service I wouldn’t have been upset, but it wasn’t worth the wait.Overall I will not come back, the whole experience made me...
Read moreA reservation was made for the company and we had a group of 15 people and put a $1500 deposit for dinner. They gave our table to a random group that walked in off the street. We had a preset menu, but the other group started ordering from it so we had to argue with the servers to get the menu we set up with them. We were there before 7 for our 7pm reservation, they didn't sit us until after 7:30. We got sat at 2 separate tables even though we're one group. They forgot to get the orders from the 2nd table but when they remembered, they said they wanted all orders to come out at the same time. Because of this, half of our orders came out cold. By this point it was after 9pm and we're finally eating for our 7pm reservation. My steak was cooked the opposite of how I ordered it. The waiter started acted friendly at the end, hoping for an extra tip over the $400 gratuity they got on an entire dinner where they could not manage to get a single thing right. Gratuity should not be guaranteed to people who are unqualified...
