I've gotten food from here 2 times. Everything was consistent both times. Quality of the food is good everything tastes fresh, not sure why a lot of the food is super wet though like the burrito was in a bed of oil. It gives it flavor but it's too much, maybe on the side would be better or ask if people want it like that. The tacos were soaked also so that was kinda strange. The drinks are good it's just very expensive for Mexican. $12 for a margarita..this is Staten Island not Manhattan and $16 for a small burrito with nothing else, $12 for ok guac and that's the cheapest one. The guacs go up to $14 I'd say it's 2 Avocados worth max. $18 for 3 very small tacos. I'm not saying don't eat here, I'm just saying be prepared to spend more than an average Mexican place. I will say the grilled chicken Quesadillas are very good too, the steak burrito is the one I had, great flavor. A tip I can give is if you want to try this place a little more budget friendly they have lunch specials Monday-Friday 11am-3pm. That same steak burrito that was $16 is $14 and comes with choice of a side like chips and guac, black bean soup, chicken tortilla soup or rice and beans. Honestly they should be offering that with the dinner meal also especially for the higher price. The best value I'd say is if you want to have a "liquid lunch" they have all you can drink margaritas for an hour and a half for only $20. So you could go in there and if you don't have anything to do get nice and plastered day drinking for $20 😂. I haven't done that yet but I would like to. Again that's part of the Lunch Menu not the dinner one. All in all I gave it a 4 if it was a lil cheaper it would be a 5 and I'd eat there much more often. I'm sure a lot of people would, as many have said the same to...
Read moreExcellent food and good attentive service!
Our family lives on Staten Island. We visited Sofia’s Taqueria on Amboy Rd on June 20, 2022 for a late Father’s Day celebration. The food was delicious and service was quick, polite, attentive.
Some highlights from our order:
Appetizers: Sophia’s Secret guacamole - very fresh and delicious, must have! Five Alarm guacamole - good, but didn’t meet heat level expectations we had based on its description. It was very mild and we found Sophia’s Secret overall tasting better. Bay Street Corn - delicious! Crispy Wings - pretty good, but nothing extraordinary.
Mains: Fish Tacos - perfectly done and delicious! Pescado Yucatán - fish fresh, juicy and fluffy, grilled to perfection! Rice was also great with nice cilantro note. And chipotle-corn salsa nicely complimented both. Overall- delicious! Steak Fajita - well made. My son liked it. Steak Burrito - my son said it was a good one, but unremarkable - 4 out of 5.
Drinks: Mexican Mule - ok, but was way too sweet for my palate. Strawberry-mint margarita - great. We had a few of them. Raspberry-mango margarita - good, but strawberry was better.
Desserts: Cookie butter tres leches - very good. Mexican chocolate mousse cake - definitely pass on this one. I didn’t find any mousse there. Would rather try strawberry-Nutella empanadas.
Keep in mind the restaurant has a huge selection of hot sauces, some if not most of which they make in house. For some reason they don’t advertise them but the list is available online and you may ask for them. I tried three sauces and they were very tasty, being a great addition to the main course.
We highly recommend this restaurant. It's very good and we’ll certainly be...
Read moreOk so let me start off by saying that I have been to many Mexican restaurants throughout ny and they all have their own take on food but are also very similar. This was my first time at this restaurant and I was excited to go.i had my kids with me and they were excited as well. My youngest son loves rice and beans and my older kids eat whatever.so to start off I ordered a apple martini and when I tasted it , it was filled with lime and was nasty.it didn't taste like an apple martini whatsoever. They fixed it but still couldn't get it right. The kids menu was not kid friendly. They didn't have any chicken fingers or Mac and cheese on it which I usually see at most Mexican restaurants and it's just on the kids menu. The rice I ordered for my son was green and he would not touch it. The waiter said that it was cilantro rice and that's the only rice they make😒. So my son only ate the tortilla chips that were on the table.for my entree I ordered a blackened chicken burrito. First I noticed of how small it was.( chipotles is way bigger for cheaper).the chicken inside didn't taste fresh at all and it was all shredded. It kind of tasted like mushy chicken and left a bad taste in my mouth.at this point I didn't even want desert.i may never give this place another try .I wish it was better then what I had. To the owner: please make another variety of rice for those who don't like cilantro and please use fresh ingredients in your burritos and in all your food. I've had fresh ingredients in many restaurants and you can definitely taste the difference. I asked for lettuce in my burrito and when I bit into it , it was all soggy and runny.please step up your game and make better authentic Mexican...
