Visited Brooklyn this past weekend and decided to stop by Somethin’ on Myrtle with a gf for dinner and drinks. This was a cute & quaint restaurant boutique in the midst of some other popular eateries on Myrtle Ave.
They have a live DJ (IG: @djjeffhaze) that provided great music to vibe too. And they also offer Hookah as well.
Somethin’ on Myrtle is an asian fusion restaurant that provides everything from vibes to libations. For our appetizers, we ordered the catfish & lobster bites. The server explained that they were out of lobster but offered us salmon & shrimp bites. We received the salmon but the shrimp was missing lol. The salmon wasn’t overly seasoned, it was fresh & tasty and it was served with 3 different house sauces (soy/sesame sauce, creamy scotch bonnet sauce and sriracha aioli sauce). We also ordered the Maryland style crab cakes in which we had to return because they were cold. When we received the second batch, the crab cakes were still cold. Feels like the crab cakes are made in advanced and sat prior to being served. We told the server and we were told that we would get complimentary drinks but I don’t believe that happened.
I ordered that Holy Grail drink which was $20. This drink was delicious as it contained the following: D’usse Cognac, Passion fruit liqueur, passion fruit Puree, Cointreau, Fresh Lemon Juice, Fee Foam. I enjoyed this drink as I love passion fruit and the taste of lemon juice complimented this drink well. My gf ordered the Blueprint drink which was $18. She thoroughly enjoyed her drink as well as it contained Bulliet Bourbon Whiskey, Fresh Lemon Juice, Agove, and Muddled Blueberries. We received a complimentary Side Car drink.
Besides the drinks, I think our entrees stole the show and made up for the hiccups regarding the lackluster appetizer crab cakes. My gf suggested that oxtail. I ordered oxtail with vegetable fried rice. And she ordered the oxtail with lo mein. I thoroughly enjoyed my dish. I wasn’t able to finish it but it tasted even better the next day. I asked for a side of extra oxtail gravy and I’m so glad I did that!
Our server was very pleasant and so was the owner. A part from them not have certain things on the menu & cold appetizers, I will definitely return mainly for the oxtail. The oxtail was tender, well seasoned and had a little kick. They also provided a nice portion of oxtail as well. Overall, I’ll give them an...
Read moreThe Gram had me out on a rainy Sunday because I liked what I saw, so off my friend and I went to Somethin' On Myrtle.
The place has a clean, classic, almost speakeasy kind of look and was a bit smaller than expected but the ambiance, Higasa and Maigasa umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, and the DJ, was cool. But the shining light was our server, Everlon.
Was there only one person making the drinks? Was that same person cooking the food? The wait time was considerable but Everlon kept us abreast of the situation and was pleasant the entire time we were there. She could teach a course on good customer service, she was amazing.
The drinks were right when we got 'em! Flavorful and a delicious blend of spirits that will creep up on you if you are not careful so please, DRINK RESPONSIBLY.
The food was tasty and fresh. We ordered the Oxtail Dumplings and the Jerk Chicken Sayta. I was aware before I entered the place that the Oxtail Dumplings were the star of the show but that Jerk Chicken took its spot. Spicy and full of flavor, the jerk wasn't overbearing in any way. The chicken was moist and I was miffed they only had four skewers - I wanted more. The three dumplings were also good, though I did expect them to be more savory.
The only "downside" I would say about the whole experience is that we almost didn't tip Everlon. We read the 18% Service Charge as the gratuity built in but it turns out that goes toward the restaurant - luckily we asked before we left.
As it stands this place is fairly new but if you're looking for a different take on some West Indian classics then you should head on out because there is...
Read moreI would NOT recommend to dine here. THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!! To start off, we were not given water, we had to ask multiple times and when we were finally given water, it was AFTER the food came, the young male server had an attitude, and hands me a stack of disposable cups for ME to set, then ONLY FILLS THEM HALFWAY ( he also was all up in my personal space pouring them his elbows were about to touch my face). The appetizers were expensive for such small portions and when we were served, they didn’t give us any small plates or utensils. When we asked our original female server for napkins and utensils she forgot so we had to ask again, then proceeded to give us ONLY TWO NAPKINS AND TWO PLASTIC FORKS FOR A TABLE OF 4! So then we had to ask once again for more utensils and napkins, which also took so long. My friend ordered the seafood boil and they didn’t give her anything to open the crab legs and when she asked they gave her the wrong tool and she ended up not being able to eat it. I’ve also never seen a crab boil in a bowl of what looked like soup it did not look very appetizing and she said it was bland. The food wasn’t anything spectacular especially for the prices. My food was okay, it didn’t taste that good and was expensive. We ask for the check and ended up waiting 45 minutes to get it, and they have the audacity to automatically add 18% TIP!!! Deep down I felt it was added because they KNEW it wasn’t deserved. Overall I’ve never had worse dining service in my life and dining here felt...
