Step In — Restaurant in New York

I've been coming to step in for 22 years, it's been 4 years since I've been here to eat, my wife and I had out first meal together in this restaurant and we decided to come back and drive 3 hours just to eat there and to out dissatisfaction we had a very bad experience. I am not sure if they've changed owners which has to be what happened, because step in was always the most consistent restaurant I've been to, every dish tasted exactly the same each time I've been there and their ingredients were always top notch. But I can't say that any longer, my wife and I ordered what we have always ordered, penne ala vodka and fettuccine Alfredo, fried mozzarella sticks and Pina colada. Both the sauces from the pasta dishes we ordered were horrible and 100 Percent different, the Alfredo sauce tasted like milk and cream cheese, and the vodka sauce tasted exactly like the sauce that came with the cheese sticks, and to make it worse, the cheese sticks were no longer made from scratch, they were the frozen kind. Our waiter took forever to take out order, then when we finally received our food, you can tell that it was under a heating lamp for more than 10 minutes, because the top of the pasta was discolored due to being under the heating lamp for longer than 2 minutes. As a professional chef, I was shocked that step in lost their consistent taste because it use to be a place that motivated me to making sure that I am consistent in my own restaurant or any restaurant that I consulted for. I was also shocked that people were smoking weed in the bathroom, which isn't the restaurants fault, however, if I was able to smell it the waiters were able to smell it and nothing was done. I won't go any further in this review, I am disappointed and I thank God that I did not bring my 7 year old daughter with us for this long trip to eat at a place that use to be the best and after 22 years I will never go back...

I haven't been to STEPIN in over 10 years. I must say it is a major difference in what I use to know. Upon my arrival I was greeted and seated very quickly. After being seated I was greeted by the waiter who didn't offer his name nor recommend anything. He was very dismissive as if he was doing us a favor by serving me and my boyfriend. After receiving our food he disappeared again and we did notice only the people by the wall area were being catered to the whole time by both waiters. They didn't think to come check the booth area until they were called. After asking my server why he hasn't came to check on us he said I have those people over there who blah blah blah. I dint want to hear it and said we are customers too. He then brought us the check and I never asked for it because I wanted to order something else but changed my mind. He made me want to leave and I would come back but not to be served by any dismissive rude server. I didn't leave a tip and I am a big tipper because he didn't deserve it. I wish i had the same experience that everyone else had. I just moved to this area and I’m trying out what local around me. I was so disappointed at how awful the service was here i basically had to beg for service! The server was rude he rushed to take my order i never finished ordering before he walked away, when he finally came with my food he legit threw it on the table and ran i never got a second to ask the man for silverware or condiments. I had to wait to finally yell and catch him to get silverware and ketchup and in all this time the drink i ordered never came until i asked for it and he just laughed like oh it’s coming. Not to mention i watch two other couples come after me get seated order taken and served before someone finally came to take my order. And i had to actually asked someone else to ask my waiter to bring me the check because he seem to want to service everyone but me. Worse food experience in this neighborhood since i moved here i will not be coming back. I GUESS YOU HAVE TO BE A LOCAL TO GET...
