There's a bit of an advantage to growing up near a historic area. That's the case for me and the Parkchester area. The Fountain itself came into being between 1938 and 1940 when this massive community was being built. Fun fact, the Metropolitan name derives from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, the company that funded the construction of Parkchester. Yup, THE MetLife company! That being said, the area is great respite from the daily grind of life. The Art Deco fountain holds the distinction of being the only public water fountain in The Bronx.
