Renewed review April 27 2022:

***DO NOT GO IF YOU ARE ASIAN!*** ****DO NOT GO IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET ARRESTED! ****

Disappointed experience today...I walked out from this bakery with tears...3 shop staff, all polish women ignored me when I was calling them "excuse me." many times when I was the only customer on line... Eventually I was able to buy a danish and coffee. The shop staff yelled at me, threatened "I will call police!" when I took a photo of inside of bakery. Why did they unwelcome customers? Why did they kick customers out?

***I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN, BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO GET ARRESTED WHEN I BUY A PIECE OF BREAD. ***

BELOW MY REVIEW WAS BACK IN 2021 My all the time favorite Polish Bakery!! "Syrena" means Mermaid in Polish, and it's a symbol of Warsaw in Poland. I love all kinds of cheese cake (yes, they have MANY kinds of cheese cakes!), freshly baked Polish style bread (NOT cheap, soft bread with chemical you normally see in supermarket in US), and individual sized bread, danish, and pies. Don't forget Pączki (Ponchki =Polish donut), too!

★Note 1★If you don't know what kinds of cakes they have, you can buy a small piece at first. They can cut all cakes in size as you want, and all of them are so affordable. Try many as you want!

★Note 2★To people who complained about customer service here, you must understand that you're in Polish neighborhood. Don't expect high-end, luxury service in Greenpoint. Polish people is very kind at heart, but they don't show it to strangers or give fake smiles, and expect big tips like waitress in American restaurants. Look at post office workers in US, to me, they are super rude and irresponsible, not even comparable to Polish people who get their jobs done...

Bad food and bad service. I used to be a regular customer for many years. I’m unsure why this place has a rating as high as it does. I’m a native Greenpointer and Polish myself, and I enjoy supporting local businesses, particularly when they make their own products and are mom and pop. More recently, I’ve noticed their products lacking in taste and quality. While I understand the circumstances of todays economy and how quality in general is on the decline, the real reason for my complaint is how I was treated at the counter by one of the workers. It was very obvious of their discriminating behavior to someone who may not have fit their idea of a customer who deserves service, as I notice they do treat polish speaking customers much better than they do English speaking ones. Body language is universal and sometimes speaks louder than words. Because of that, the workers here do serve quite the attitude. While I can meet and exceed their level of nastiness, I remained polite to the woman who did not understand my request for a piece of cheesecake. The eye rolls and heavy breathing when the language barrier wasn’t crossed spoke loudly. It’s not my problem that someone who works specifically to help a customer can’t understand the customer. My order was thrown on the counter. I paid, and left upset because I held such high esteem for this place. To those reading this review, there are better, trendier places that have staff who understand and are willing to serve with a smile. And reading other reviews, at least I can say I can’t take this personally , as others have expressed such borderline racist behavior...

If you’re searching for something real—something that tastes like tradition, like care, like Europe before it was rushed—this Polish bakery is where you’ll find it. Every bite feels like home, even if you’ve never stepped foot in Kraków or Warsaw. The bread? Still warm, with a crust that sings when you tap it and a soft interior that humbles every supermarket loaf. The pastries are not just sweet—they’re stories folded in layers: buttery, flaky, filled with rich poppy seeds, fresh berries, or farmer’s cheese that melts like a memory. There’s nothing artificial here. Nothing rushed. Just recipes handed down, probably whispered, and perfected by hands that remember how it was done before shortcuts existed. If you’ve ever had a grandmother who baked, you’ll understand. And if you haven’t—you’ll finally know what it’s supposed to taste like. This is not just a bakery. It’s a quiet rebellion against bland. A little corner of Europe where time slows down, and flavor means something again.

I visit this amazing Polish bakery for all major holidays. I’m glad I live too far to be there more often because I’d be having cakes for breakfast!!! Just got this amazing rum cake (see photos) for Easter but it was so delicious, it didn’t make it to Easter. Lol. I strongly recommend their Polish donuts (pączki) and cheesecakes. They have a great variety of those to chose from. Best part is that their desserts aren’t overly sweet like the typical American desserts. Place is clean and staff friendly. No inside sitting area but there’s a bench outside where you can sit and enjoy your donut/coffee. Place gets very crowded during holidays so expect to wait in long lines, but, trust me, it’s worth it.
