In a coffee world increasingly dominated by two extremes: 1. Over the top, too-cool-for-school barista culture… Or 2. soulless, venture-backed coffee chains sprouting up on every block like weeds… Cafe Grumpy is a balm. Providing the perfect antidote to everything ailing New York’s coffee scene: $12 lattes, minimalist cafes optimized for Instagram photo ops and…whatever Blank Street is.
Perched on a quiet, unassuming corner of Greenpoint and bathed in natural light, Grumpy is a safe haven for remote workers, the nearby production crews and neighborhood regulars just looking to catch up over a cup.
For a place named Grumpy, the staff is anything but, serving great coffee and surprisingly good pastries with the no-nonsense pace of Brooklyn and the familiarity of a small town coffee shop.

Read moreExtremely good service and tasty coffee, especially for a place called Cafe Grumpy. I just moved to the neighborhood and will happily be going back.

Ordered a latte and a cappuccino, once we got the cappuccino and realized it’s smaller than normal size and very bitter on top of that, my husband returned it for a latte since the acidity would hurt his stomach.
