Generally my opinion of the Msgr McGolrick Park is very good. I grew up across from the Park and have enjoyed it for almost 70 years. My exceptions to this would be the following. There is too many Adults that Sleep and Drink in the Park. Leaving behind temporary beding of all sorts. This also includes bodily waste and toilet paper. Look in the higher bushes to find the offenders. They also leave behind all their emptie containers, many of which are glass Whiskey bottles - most of which they break and leave VERY SHARP GLASS all over especially in the grassy areas where children and animals walk. My Dog has been cut more than once from this. Garbage pickup should be more often especially on weekends. People use the Park and think their parents work at the Park and will clean up after their poor cleanliness habits. Please pick up after yourself and your little party. Too many people sleeping in Benches that should be used for sitting - again too much drinking in the Park. Much of this is starting to cause a health hazzard, as you can see by the RAT HOLES by the Dog walk on the corner of Driggs and Russell. On another topic who is the parents, guardians or day care person that is allowing the child or children to continue to DIG ALL THE HOLES all around the Park. I have tripped a few times in the night time while walking my dog. Additionally, would people stop putting household Garbage in the Park for pickup. Who are you hiding from, use the garbage bins in your building. Stop the Children and their Adults from playing in and removing the rocks-boulders from the area where the rock feature is. There is a fence around it for a reason - YOUR SUPPOSED TO STAY OUT OF THAT AREA. I could go on, but tired of typing. Enough for now but start with these...
Read moreLove this park as it is usually green through the year and has ample space to walk and sit. What I love about this park is that it’s never over crowded and yet it never feels empty either. The greenery is just stunning and given the size of the park you could totally escape the city noises for a bit and immerse yourself in some nature.
There are a few areas to put down a mat and make a picnic or you could just use the picnic tables/benches in the park too. There is a public restroom and a kids play areas with swings, slides and also a water fountain where they can run around in the hot summer days.
On Sundays there is a farmers market along with a donation drop off until around 3pm. The market is open throughout the year except during the colder winter months.
The dog park is a good size and there are benches for the owners to sit down and hangout while the dogs are playing.
There are a few beautifully sculpted metal sculptures. Squirrels and pigeons along with everyday birds can be see here through the year.
There are a few good places to get coffee, drinks, pizza and groceries or even a proper meal to enjoy at the park a few yards...
Read moreI grew up in this park and have seen the many renovations and work over the years. Today, it is even better than ever, with a great community, well kept space, farmers market, and events. The fields are always welcoming and full of picnics, kids playing, and dogs with their humans enjoying the dog park. It’s one of the few green spaces in the area. Lots of beautiful old trees, flowers, and general beautiful landscaping. We love to lay on the grass and bird watch and have even heard of a resident skunk. The pavilion in the center of the park allows for some shelter, whether you are getting together with a group or need to get out of the rain. There is a palpable sense of community in this intimate neighborhood gem. Enjoy live music often played by local musicians, take and even enjoy coffee, food, baked goods, and ice cream all...
