This place was hyped on tiktok for being the mexican indian fusion needed in manhattan downtown. It’s like a coffee random long lines of customers ordering seating is a bit tight like other customers have made reviews there’s not really a cleaning crew like I had to wipe things myself down to sit and eat inside there is also outside seating but the music and ac made it a vibe in the hot summer day but yeah that’s why i’m giving one star less if it was a bit more cleaner then full 5 stars. As a fellow desi native it’s the norm to get a typical naan with paneer but these guys go on a whole different level a naan than the toppings with fresh salad and garnishing it’s like you’re in India eating Mexican food the paneer naan is bomb so addicting and makes you full so fast the sauce of the butter masala of the paneer was so good and creamy definitely worth the hype and apparently the lamb is halal but not everything else like chicken etc so i chose the lamb bowl was good decent lamb texture with some daal and avocado literally made it 10x better. Paneer fries with the Paneer sauce they gave it was so yummy and flavorful. Point being the Naan tacos were worth the hype with the creamy tasty sauce and fresh garnishing I will definitely recommend it and the Paneer fries are great as well. They should expand the store a bit more and also clean the dining area a bit more and this store will do amazing...
Read moreI went to Taco Mahal expecting it to be a unique twist on Indian and Mexican food. Unfortunately it was a bit of a let down:
CONS
Misleading advertising -- If you expect to get a taste of both Mexican and Indian food, it'll be a slight let down. The only adoption of Mexican-style food is the way the curry is served in their "naan taco" and "roti taco." The only way it differs from normal Indian food is that the curry is served on the naan instead of on the side.
Difficult to eat -- The way the food is served does make it a bit sloppy to eat so if you're dining out with other people and don't want to get messy, just beware!
PROS
Great place for a quick meal! -- The portion size and speedy service makes it a perfect place to treat yourself to a quick meal. It was light but still satisfying, so unless you're starving, one naan taco or biryani should fill you up. Beware of the roti tacos though -- they're significantly smaller than they should be for their price.
Great taste! -- The food overall tasted amazing. It was flavorful and hits the right spot. It's not exactly spicy though, so if you're looking for a good spicy meal, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
Overall, considering both the pros and cons, Taco Mahal was an okay place to go. If you're in the area and are craving some quick Indian food, I would recommend giving it a go. Otherwise, there are better Indian options...
Read moreJust visited Tacomahal and wow - what a delightful fusion spot! Their signature roti tacos are seriously genius. Picture this: tender chicken tikka masala wrapped in a perfectly chewy roti, topped with crisp purple cabbage, arugula, and onions. It's like they took the best of Indian cuisine and gave it a fun taco twist.
The chicken biryani is a standout - each grain of rice is perfectly seasoned and fluffy, with generous chunks of juicy chicken throughout. Fair warning: it brings the heat! But they've got you covered with a cooling yogurt sauce that balances everything perfectly.
Don't sleep on the lamb curry either. The meat is tender and clean-tasting, with a rich cumin-forward sauce that'll have you reaching for more roti to soak it all up.
While the setup is casual counter-service style, the food quality is way above your typical fast-casual spot. Everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The portions are generous too - definitely enough to share or save some for later.
Only tiny downside is the lack of a bathroom for customers, but don't let that stop you from visiting. The cute interior and absolutely delicious food make it worth it. Already planning my next visit to try more...
