Really cool experience in Brooklyn if you're looking for a fancy meat restaurant with a different type of vibe. Décor is beautifully done, and the menu is heavy on the pasta, chicken, lamb and veal. Although they do have a ribeye steak option, this is not a steakhouse. They seem to pride themselves on a lighter style, so you don't feel terribly stuffed when you leave.
This restaurant is located in the spot where the old Café Venezia used to be, and is fairly large, complete with a second floor equipped with some very large tables for big groups. The menu is a play on the old Tevere restaurant which existed on the upper east side in Manhattan. The downstairs has dim lighting and is nice for a romantic date. They do serve wine but are waiting for their liquor license for a full bar.
Appetizers were great. Highly recommend the fried artichokes, which were both crunchy and juicy with a lemon twist. The truffle risotto was extremely flavorful and I liked that there wasn't so much liquid/cream. The salads are done well, and it's nice that most main courses come with salads, i.e. the breaded veal and lamb chops. I liked the Bolognese and lasagna, they tend to know what they are doing with tomato-based dishes like meatballs as well (although it was weird that it came with a ton of sauce but no spaghetti).
The desserts were excellent, the napoleon was really nice and the chocolate fondue was very much liquid though. Remember that these are all non-dairy. All in all, definitely worth...
Read moreIf you are like me and Tavere 84 was your absolute favorite all time restaurant and you knew the menu by heart and still dream about the food, well its all back but in Brooklyn!!! Food is the same absolutely amazing delicious! Nothing like the breaded veal chop thats bigger than the plate!!! And guess what, the wait staff that was awesome, they are all there with the same great service!!! Im wondering if they own a piece of the restaurant now to have gotten them back in Bklyn...the ambiance unfortunately isnt the same, i loved the quietness and quaintness of the Manhattan location, literally feeling like you were in italy, this doesn't compare, and they must do something about noise absorption, its really loud on a busy night...but afterall its about the food...and that and the service were...
Read moreThe best I can describe this was good but not great. The service was just ok - fairly prompt but our server didn't bother telling us about the specials and wasn't so attentive. The food was good as well, but far overpriced. We got a plate of 3 roasted artichokes for $18, but the presentation horrible (a far too large plate that was otherwise empty, no visual appeal). Their gnocchi in meat sauce and veal marsala were both fairly tasty with a nice home cooked feel, but again the presentation was lacking (again, did not look appealing to eat). House wine was pretty good and reasonably priced. Overall I'd say unless you love kosher veal or real Jewish Italian food, probably more worth it to find...
