Went here an hour before closing to try this new place out.
Our order and the review is below.
Wagyu uni: the beef was good and uni tasted fresh.
Pancake (kinda like okonomiyaki): crispy and lots of bonito flakes slightly above average. The picture on the menu makes it look small but it's a pretty big pancake.
Chicken skin: not as much as Ajimi but the flavor is good and not too dry
Gyudon (I wanted to try their black garlic ramen but they were sold out): I enjoyed it a lot but it's not the usual gyudon you'd get where the beef has been cooked in a broth like setting. It's more like grilled a bit and then sauced but it was good and I would get it again.
Sashimi special: the pieces looked big but very very tiny hint of fishy taste but overall good. Way better than Osaka on 86th Street. Crazy salmon roll: this one was a miss... It had avocado in the roll and the avocado overpowered the salmon flavor. Don't know how the avocado can overpower the salmon flavor but it did.
Overall, this place is way better than Osaka. It's a shame I didn't get to try their ramen so I can compare it to Ajimi on...
Read moreOut of all the things I ordered, I only enjoyed the grilled pork appetizer. The owner used pickled ginger to pickle cucumbers, representation was honestly not the best, but it was good.
My man ordered the mini wagyu uni don, the portion was ridiculously small, if you can’t afford to give more ikura to your customer, at least sub it with Masago and make the portion look full. The ikura was legit fairy dust, not sure what the point of that was.
We ordered 3 rolls and wanted extra crunch, the crunch was stale. You see the containers near the sushi bar and it’s just completely bull considering it takes less than 2 minutes to fry crunch.
Ordered crab fried rice with masago, and they did not fail to disappoint. They used the smallest bowl I’ve ever seen rather than a plate. The crab was bare minimal to nothing, they burnt the scallions to mimic blue crab meat. I waited a whole hour for a bowl of wet fried rice with scallions.
This restaurant is just a copycat of Longevous Joy. Although their food downgraded as well, I’ll continue to stick with Osaka, at least they know their quality...
Read moreThe price is very reasonable and the quality of their food is extremely fresh and delicious! Service was quick both times that I went, once when it was quiet and empty, and the second time when it was jammed pack, which surprised us since we were expecting to wait quite a bit due to how busy they were; this suggests that they have a good system going and it only took 5-10 minutes for us to get all our food despite it being a full house. The shrimp tempura box was such a steal with perfectly cooked and juicy shrimp, and even the popcorn chicken that accompanied the bento was perfectly crisped and seasoned. Their raw selections were delicious and extremely fresh, so I don't think you can go wrong with either cooked or raw selections. Overall we had a great time and will definitely be back for some quick, affordable and delicious Japanese food!
