I canāt believe Iām only now leaving a review after so many visitsāthis bakery is truly unreal! Every time I come by, thereās something new and exciting on the menu, but their classic staples always keep me coming back.
The āPig in Bedā and cinnamon roll are absolute must-tries. The Pig in Bed is a savory pastry with perfectly seasoned meat wrapped in the flakiest, buttery crust imaginable. And the cinnamon roll? Iām not usually a cinnamon roll person, but this one converted me. The dough is pillowy-soft and melts in your mouth, while the icing has just the right amount of sweetness and creaminessāperfection.
I stopped by today later than usual (around 1:30 PM) and was pleasantly surprised by how much was still available. I picked up a baguette and tried the seasonal Chili Mango Danishāand WOW. The mango filling is bright, flavorful, and so addictive I could eat a whole tub of it.
You really canāt go wrong hereāevery pastry Iāve tried has been amazing. Donāt skip the milk bread eitherāitās super soft, buttery, and pulls apart like a dream.
Bonus points for the dog leash hooks outsideāsuch a thoughtful touch that shows they care about all their customers, even the ones with pups in tow.
Whether youāre a regular or visiting for the first time, this bakery is a gem worth going out of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreItās all justā¦..fine? The bakery market is becoming over saturated, and some establishments are building their business on a story and personalities involved more so than the product itself. Donāt get me wrong, the croissant is not bad. The popular cinnamon roll too is not bad. Therefore with ānot badā products, in order to differentiate and live up to the name given to the establishment, and the whole narrative theyāve laid out in interviews and their marketing (that of being a bakery for the people and the community), they had better EXCEL in customer service. But⦠they donāt. The co owner who helps serve is not particularly welcoming, ironically. It was surprising because she seems so warm and charismatic on their insta account and said all the right things in interviews. Iāve been twice, the first time it was empty and the second time there was a line out the door. Both times, products were fine and service left me feeling like I wasnāt the kind of customer they wanted. Tbh itās kind of how I feel with the front of house people at LāAppartement. š¤·š»āāļø In any case, best of luck to them. Personally Iād rather just go to the La bicyclette outpost in Entre Nous for my perfectly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreProbably the best croissant ($4.50) I have had in a long while and I am European. The sourdough bread ($10 per loaf - i picked the "City" loaf) is absolutely delicious even on the second and third day - they usually wrap it in a waxed paper envelope which keeps it fresh for a long time. This place isn't cheap to say the least but the quality of the baked goods is very good. UPDATE: 4/5/25, I had a Cardamom pastry today, along with my obligatory butter croissant (always A+) but unfortunately this one was just ok: a little on the dry side (not crazy but every so slightly) and WAY too much cardamom which is a very strong and pungent spice and needs to be dosed quite carefully. The next part is not specific to this place (but characteristic to most white-owned hipster businesses in the nabe) and I DO love to tip, having spent many years working in the service industry, but to start the screen with 18% as the lowest option for a takeout place is ridiculous - especially at these prices. But I suppose that's the white Brooklyn millennial...
