We ordered online to get a guava cheese, Danny Boy (salted brown butter), mango lassi, and Rosita Fresita. When we went to pick up, they informed us that they hadn't seen our order, and had run out of two flavors. They offered a refund or a substitution of our Rosita and Danny Boy with a yuzu meringue and La Donna flavor. We took the latter. All the donuts were soft, and well decorated. Opening the box felt very lux and each flavor looked and tasted distinct.
The guava and cheese is delicious. There's a great filling to donut ratio in their filled donuts. The cheese was not overly sweet or salty, and paired well with the guava. Often, guava sweets can be too saccharine, but this hit an amazing sweet spot!
If you're a yuzu lover congrats. The yuzu tastes like a powerful concentrate, as if you're licking the fruit itself. We are fans of tart. This was much more sinister than that. It made my wife cry. Not tears of joy or hatred, it is just a bit physically alarming. Definitely an experience. Would try if I needed to jolt myself awake.
The lassi tasted more similar to dried mango than fresh, with a hint of yogurt tartness. It wasn't outstanding, but it wasn't offensive. We are fans of lassi, and in donut form it was a very neutral experience. I would recommend if you are adventurous and like yogurt or that dried mango taste!
The La Donna was hard to place, and tasted a bit like a very nice, fragrant raspberry soap. It tasted complex, but in the way a fancy perfume would. Like the yuzu, it was very strongly tart. It's taste is more fit for something that's easily spread, like a jam. In donut form, the concentrated glaze is very heavy on the palate. If you're a fan of black currant and raspberry, definitely pick this up because we won't be.
I have read a lot about the artisan donuts here. Maybe in the future we might return to try the flavors that have been recommended that we weren't able to get. We did lose a dollar since the donuts they substituted were less expensive. Overall, an...
Read moreThe customer service here is despicable. I happened to be walking by in the area and stumbled upon this small business. I try to support local, small businesses whenever I can.
Not planning to make any pit stops, I didn’t bring a face mask with me. As I walked in, the African American woman at the front SCREAMS at me and tells me I need a mask. My first thought is that I can’t believe this woman works in the hospitality industry - she has absolutely zero social intelligence. I immediately respond by apologizing and asking if they have one I can use.
After brushing off the impoliteness, I explain how I just happened to come across them and would like to support their business. Then the older white man with glasses at the back yells that I need a mask to order. Again, where is the customer service?
Continuing my attempt at supporting them and give them my money (why? I honestly don’t know), I calmly and politely ask if I’d be able to call into the store to place my order and meet them at the front door. The man again yells with such hostility that they do not provide curbside service. I clarify that I would be standing outside of their front door, so they would simply just hand me my order. They continue to yell and state they can’t do that.
The fact that they cannot pick up a phone and walk literally 3 feet to the door to service a customer clearly demonstrates they are there only to get their daily paycheck and have no desire to support their own business, as well as the neighborhood it services.
I ended up going to DOUGH, buying 7 doughnuts and giving them a $8 tip because they were simply respectful and provided customer service. If you want to be verbally harrassed by the workers at Fan Fan, go here. Otherwise, go...
Read moreIn the heart of Bed-Stuy, a neighborhood known for its rich cultural tapestry, stands a donut shop that has captured my heart and taste buds. This isn't just any donut shop; it's a beacon of sweet, doughy goodness that has withstood the test of time and change.
Previously known as Dough Donuts, this shop underwent a transformation when the original Dough evolved into a chain, losing a bit of its soul in the process. However, this original location in Bed-Stuy managed to preserve the essence of what made Dough so special, under a new name and with the same old charm.
What sets this donut shop apart is its commitment to creativity and quality. The donuts here aren't your run-of-the-mill varieties; they are incredibly creative, blending unique flavors and textures that surprise and delight with every bite. From the classic glazed to the more adventurous creations, each donut is a masterpiece in its own right.
Even though I've moved away from Bed-Stuy, the allure of these donuts draws me back time and again. It's a testament to their irresistible appeal and the shop's enduring place in the neighborhood.
This donut shop is more than just a place to grab a quick snack; it's a staple of Bed-Stuy, a symbol of how traditional flavors can be reinvented in exciting ways. It stands as a reminder of the neighborhood's dynamic spirit, where the old and new coexist harmoniously.
In conclusion, if you ever find yourself in Bed-Stuy with a craving for something sweet, this donut shop is an absolute must-visit. It's a delightful corner of the neighborhood where tradition meets innovation, and every donut tells a story of...
