Newark has needed an authentic and delicious Indian food for so long and Sigri has finally come to answer the call!!
So this place is definitely a fast-casual Indian cuisine but each dish has such high standard and authenticity, it's super yummy! I was here for the soft opening and was able to sample a couple of the dishes and I was pleasantly surprised and super happy I tried this place out! The manager and chef actually came out to greet each customer and made sure that we all liked our dishes and even asked us for our opinion for changes - WOW Customer service!!
So we ordered a bowl, I had the mixed rice that included safron and some spices with paneer and grilled vegetables, a garlic butter naa, with two types of slaws, one was the onion one and another was the cabbage and carrots, vindaloo sauce on the side and mint chutney! OMG it was amazing! For $8.50 this place sure does not disappoint, there was so much food and the quality of each item was on point.
The rice is the most flavorful rice medley that I have ever tasted with a slight hint of spice, which paired really well with the paneer and grilled vegetables. The paneer was so fresh, it had great texture and had a great smokey flavor to it. Paneer typically does not have a lot of taste but mixed with the flavorful rice and the grilled vegetables this dish does not disappoint! FYI, I am not a vegetarian and I found it absolutely wonderful! I didn't even miss the concept of having meat at the meal because everything was flavorful and delicious. I also ordered a lamb patty on the side just because I really wanted to try it, this was the MOST flavorful and JUICY lamb patty that I ever tasted. Seriously I cut into it and wow the juices flowed over my rice and ....OMG ...im drooling...it was so good!!!! The lamb itself was seasoned so well, I literally could eat that all day.
Now I like spicy food so that is why I double downed on spice with a spicy curry - vindaloo and wow. The vindaloo curry alone with just the naan is fantastic and with a small bites of the onion or cabbage mixture makes is a textural heaven in my mouth!! I was able to try my friends order of another curry flavor, I think tiki masala and it was good but I just enjoyed the vindaloo soo much more. I mixed all the dishes with the mint chutney and wow...it was fantastic!
This place has great service, fantastic food and I will...

The restaurant can be dubbed as an Indian Chipotle serving awesome food with great ambience, quick service and reasonable pricing. The staff was very friendly and suggested me the choice of sauce for the meal. It may get a bit crowded during lunch hours, but the lines move pretty fast and there is ample seating as well. They also have an open bread kitchen where one can see live Naan making in the Indian ovens called tandoor. The menu was very simple and had great choices for each course of the meal.
I found the place pretty vegetarian friendly. For each order you can choose between bowl, roti or platter type. For platter pick a choice of rice, protein, sauce, naan bread, kachumbar (salad) and chutney. It also comes with a Samosa on the side. This may seem a lot of things to pick but it was simple and definitely worth it. Vegetarians can choose between Grilled Vegetables (vegan option) or Paneer for their choice of protein. I wish the amount of sauce served could have been a bit more, found it a tad less for the entire meal. Overall, I have found the food very flavorful and tasty.
Recommendations: Rice bowl Rice: Sigri Rice Protein: Paneer Sauce: Butter (Rich tomato and onion based sauce) or Vindaloo (Spicy sauce option) Naan: Garlic Naan Kachumbar/Salad: Cucumber and Radish (Light, refreshing and pairs well with spicy curries) Chutney: Mango Cilantro ( Sweet and tangy sauce to cut the richness of the meal) Lassi: Mango Lassi
FYI, one can also order the food online on their app and skip the line to save some time.
Summary: A must try place in Newark area close to the Rutgers campus for some great Indian food and...
Read moreDon’t get the roll. The naan is too small to hold many toppings so you can’t be making chipotle burritos with them. Personally thought the toppings they had after the protein was kind of a miss...turnips, cucumber, cabbage, beets... I forget what was combined with what but I do remember the beets being a separate topping to choose from. Anyways the roll falls apart if you try to eat it (while gradually removing the foil) with too many toppings in it. Maybe if they had the longer flatter naan it would have been better. I give them an extra star for having the glass wall so you can see how food is getting prepared. Staff were friendly. Overall it was an ok experience considering the loud music, taste, spacious area, prices being a wee too high ($3.50 for a mango lassi??), and that I got diarrhea about 2 hours later. It was slightly reminiscent of Taco Bell. I might stop by another day to get a...
