I book a room at the TRYP by Wyndham in Newark NJ.. I thought I was going to be staying at a great hotel.. But I was wrong.. A stay there to get some rest before I was called out for work which my job requires myself to get some good rest.. I had to get a room after room after room because it was extremely cold in each room.. I reported that the heat isn't working in the 1st room.. Was told that give it some time.. It would come on but it never did after hours.. So they told me they was going to do something about it but still nothing came out of the vents . Was told to come down and get another key for another room.. Which someone from front desk escorted me back upstairs into my room which I told him that this room is freezing cold as well.. And remind you that all the rooms have thermostat that reads off how cold the temperature is in the room and it's displayed 66 degrees.. I was told to give it some time and the heat will come up and he set it to the highest temperature which is 83-84 degrees.. Well some time went by and it was about a hour or two before I had to call back downstairs to the front desk.. And was told with a attitude to come down and get another key for another room.. I goes downstairs to front desk and the receptionists tell me that there's no one else complaining about the room and how cold they are.. I replied that you can go upstairs and feel how cold it is and also the thermostat reveals the temperature on how cold it is.. So the 3rd room finally was more comfortable after the heat took a while to come up But now at this point.. I'm due to go back into work a couple of hours later.. I called downstairs and asked for a manager to find out if there was something that can be done by reimburse me or accommodating me for another night free and also asked if I was able to get a late check out cause after work I was going to come back and get some rest since I didn't get to enjoy my stay there and get my any rest sleep.. But they told me no.. In fact came downstairs in the morning or call and the manager would be here and that person would be able to help.. Well I called while I was on my way back to hotel afterwards of leaving work and the guy on the phone was nasty to me after I told him I definitely deserve to be looked out for what was out there control cause they don't own the place or was responsible for the mishap because they just work there so there was no need for him or anyone to get all pissed off with me cause I made a complaint.. So I was told to call back or come to front desk after 9.. the manager would be here.. So I called at 10:10am and there was no management around or in work I was told and for me to email someone if I had issues.. I told them I would like for them to reach out to managers or management and explain what happened and to give me a call before check out.. Well no one did And I called back and front desk said hold on.. I'm calling the manager now And get back on the phone and said.. Someone will return your call soon.. Hours go by.. Now it's 3:10 pm and I called back and the lady that answered.. Yells at me saying.. We're not going to be giving you anything.. No money back.. No free room and to don't even call back or come cause you complaining about our rooms being cold and you booked the reservation and should have read the terms.. and before she hung .. She responded by saying calling me with this garbage.. don't call back bothering me again.. So I called corporate and place a complaint.. So this place doesn't deserve anymore staying there doing the winter while it's cold.. The rooms are freezing and if the room that have the heat that works.. It's going to take some time to get some heat in there and it never reached the temperature of the max which was set at 83-84 degrees.. Maybe if you keep it on all day and night but I never got the chance to feel it cause they wouldn't allow me to stay another day or night there to enjoy and get the opportunity to experience the stay there.. Which I was very surprised.. Not a good...
Read moreMy experience at the Tryp was initially pretty great. The hotel facilities are nice, staff was helpful, the hotel restaurant was very good (at a reasonable price), and the room we stayed in was decently spacious and clean. The only thing that was somewhat of a con with respect to the room was a pretty mediocre tv set and a poor selection of channels.
The really negative part of my stay at the Tryp was the advertised free shuttle to the airport. My partner and I were staying at the Tryp for just one night because our flight had been cancelled and rescheduled for the following morning. We were informed that the Tryp had a free shuttle that arrived "on the hour, every hour" 24/7, which was ideal because our flight was at 6:50 am. We were told to get to the hotel lobby about 15 minutes early and to tell the person at the front desk that we needed a shuttle to the airport.
We followed instructions and got to the lobby at 4:45 am and told the person at the front desk, as instructed. There was a family who had already been waiting for the shuttle in the lobby before we got there, so I believe the front desk had already been informed that there were people waiting for the shuttle. The front desk attendant told us that the shuttle was on its way.
The shuttle did not come at 5:00 am (like it was supposed to) or 5:10 am, or 5:20 am, or 5:30 am. We waited for about 45 minutes and the shuttle never came. We asked the front desk attendant for an update a couple of times throughout the 45 minute wait and he said that the shuttle "should be on its way" but offered up no other information. The airport is a 10-15 minute drive from the hotel so I literally have no idea where the shuttle disappeared to and what could have possibly taken it so long. When I asked the front desk attendant if he could get in touch with the shuttle driver, he told us that the Tryp was actually borrowing another hotel's shuttle/driver, and he had no way of getting in touch with the person and providing us with an update. It seems like a pretty poor system if you're advertising an on-the-hour, every hour shuttle for people who need to make flights on time, but have no way of actually ensuring that the shuttle arrives on time. This was additionally confusing because we saw two shuttles parked outside in the front of the hotel which were just not being used.
So, ultimately, we had to decide between (a) continuing to wait for the shuttle with no updates whatsoever into what was taking so long or when the shuttle could be expected to pick us up, or (b) sucking it up and paying for an Uber. We took option (b).
Overall, despite everything that the hotel did well (which was most things!) the issue we encountered with the shuttle really soured my experience at the Tryp. Hopefully this was a one-time thing or the hotel will take steps to improve things...
Read moreWorst hotel experience I have ever had, hotel completely mismanaged. If you stay at this hotel, look at your bill very closely. And don’t trust anyone on staff to care or assist you if you have an issue. My husband reserved a room for two nights: Friday night and Saturday night. All was well until we returned to our room on Saturday afternoon to find that our room had been completely cleared out. Our things were gone. Front desk staff were unhelpful and even accusatory that we had made an error and handed us a business card of their manager to call to resolve things. No manger was on duty. To make matters worse, they didn’t even make an effort to help us. They didn’t even offer to book us into a different room. Just blank stares and eye rolls as we got increasingly upset. Managers over the phone had a bad connection and continued to make us feel like we had done something wrong. “You only had a reservation for one night...IF someone made a mistake, ...” All of our stuff was pulled out of a closet in clear plastic bags and only after we asked. And we were left standing in the hotel lobby with no recourse for what felt like an eternity. Finally, a manager spoke with us and gave us a complimentary room for the night. (There were plenty of rooms available, making the whole situation even stranger.) That night our room sounded like we were right above a club. Loud thumping music until midnight and even the smell of smoke coming from somewhere. The cleaning staff started knocking on doors and vacuuming in the hall at 8 am. When we checked out, I needed receipts for work. There was no charge for the new room, but our original receipt included charges for 2 nights, an 85 late fee, and $200 in hotel restaurant charges when we had never eaten in the restaurant. The reservation was for the wrong days— arriving Thursday and checking out Saturday. While this explains the issue we experienced, it infuriates me even more that there was such a clear explanation and error on the part of the hotel, yet no one even tried to indentify what went wrong or try to help us. We were made to feel like we were in the wrong. I highly recommend finding somewhere else to stay. Staff is terrible and the rooms are modern but really...
