I ordered two subs and a sandwich. My two subs were switched around with the items asked for on opposite of each other . I had called to make an inquiry about the mix-up. Of course they wanted the items returned and willing to remake it. Which is fine and policy. However they close at 8:00 and I was not going out after being settled for the night. I ordered out for a reason. When I called . Jenn, a manger laughed at me while explaining the sub condiments were made incorrectly. And mentioned I was all over the place. NO. Your obviously not understanding fast enough what I'm telling you . Not only did I have a bad experience with the manager but upon paying here on July third 2024 I went to pay with EBT and I was informed they no longer take it. Okay fine that's fine. But after my stuff was placed on the counter and I was informed they no longer take EBT after ringing my items up and telling me my total. The staff then told me oh yeah so if you want to put anything back you can go ahead and do so. That initially made me feel like okay because you don't take EBT I'm financially unable to pay for the items here on the counter???? Why was that even a prompt. "We no longer take EBT do you want to put anything back"that right there made me feel like I wanted to not order anything at all and put everything back. Obviously I wanted what I ordered so however I pay for it it's going to get paid so why is the staff asking me do you want to put anything back. made me feel like I wasn't able to afford it. So not only were my subs wrong .the whole experience made me feel like less of a person which is ml messed up I'm done going there. And to mention Jen said oh that's one of my top sandwich makers. Okay and that means what ,we are all human and we can make mistakes. She continued to say oh I've been in this business for 30 years. Okay that's great and I have been a server for 15 so I totally understand. the nonsense that came along with it wasn't necessary especially the giggles. Wrong is wrong and I felt like I was looked at a whole diff way because I was initially paying with EBT. Um I paid visa this is what I wanted and I got it. And it was wrong....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOh man! One thing they have and do right North of the Mason Dixon line is hoagies and or subs and specifically Italian subs. I swear I love the South and they do their thing all well and proper but you will not find a sandwich of a high caliber like that which may be gotten at Malins deli. They have a full fledged deli with all your meats and cheeses and the slicer to cut it and all the basic deli gear. You know plenty of places have all that, but you can't buy talent and skill like these folks have. Myself only being in the area for a month during training, you had better believe as a former resident of Delaware I knew that if I found the neighborhood deli I would rediscover something found and also lost between the ages of 11 and 14. Ask I did and delivered I was. To the promised land of defreakinlicious submarine sandwiches or hoagies if you will. The Italian is bomb and the meatball was bomb dot com. They have a host of different sandwiches and sides and a whole store filled with various goods. Now the fact that most of my comrades in training were from the West or Midwest or the South they knew not what hidden treasures I was about to uncover. So I picked a lucky few to accompany me when striking our for lunch. One gentleman from Ohio had no clue what a real hoagie was and upon my suggestion he got the Italian. Needless to say he was looking to get back to that spot every chance he got. We wished we could have mailed a small supply back home but that's silly right? No...no it is not. Good food done well is not easy especially regional food. He did get a sub for the flight home and I did in fact get two for the drive back to Virginia. Half of one made it into the Old Dominion as the others were devoured with absolute disregard for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you want a Thanksgiving-leftover sandwich that ACTUALLY TASTES like Thanksgiving, this is the place to get it! My one complaint is that they put too much turkey and not enough cranberry, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. :)
Staff is always friendly and helpful. They also have great home-made side dishes.
FRESH UPDATE - 2019 (lowered my rating again down to two stars): I tried the JimBob again for the first time in over a year. Bread has gotten even tougher (almost to the leather stage), and still issues with the counter staff (the owner?) - he spent at least five minutes talking to a customer that had already paid while everyone else's orders were piling up waiting to be paid for. By the time he finished talking to the customer, there were somewhere between 5 and 7 orders waiting to pay (some orders were large, so hard to tell if there were more than one). Other than the bread, the sandwich was still good! :)
UPDATE (lowered my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars): After eating their Thanksgiving-leftovers sandwich (aka, the JimBob) at least 25 times, I quit eating there for two reasons: first, even though they supposedly get daily bread deliveries, the bread for their sandwiches these days is always stale, tough, and rubbery, making it hard to bite through, and also making all the sandwich contents ooze out all over the place; and second, the counter service has gotten really lousy - no matter how many people were working behind the counters, I was always having to wait to place my order, and also having to wait to check out. Food is still really good though (other...
