This place is a short distance from my home, and of all the years I've been aware that it was nearby, I never actually visited it until now because I assumed it was a factory that made tortillas. How wrong I was to make this assumption. I stepped inside (out of curiosity) when I was on my way to 7-Eleven, and perhaps a little laziness when I happened to notice that what I wanted at 7-Eleven was also available at the Tortilla Factory.
As I walked inside, I realized it is like a little convenience store, where you can also order a warm meal, and sit down to enjoy it either indoors or outdoors at tables and chairs. I did not order food that day since I was more about shopping that day. And this is why my star rating could not be given as a 5 since I did not experience one of the important features here. However, I was absolutely 100% satisfied with my shopping experience. I found everything I was looking for plus more! The service was friendly, prompt, and helpful. I will definitely be back again in the future. I like it better than 7-Eleven anyway, because it seemed to have more choices and friendlier service in a cleaner...
Read morePreordered tamales for Christmas: I sent my mom there and she got horrible customer service. I'm surprised because I had no issue last year except for the woman being a bit curt.
The manager refused to let my mom prepay on Monday but got her phone number. The manager set the pickup time for 9 am even though my mom explained she could not pick up due to medical appointments for herself and her sister. Well mom made it work, stood in line for an hour this morning, only to be told her order had been sold to another customer because she wasn't there on time!? She asked why no one called her to let her know the order was ready prior to selling them but the manager had no response.
She asked me to share her experience so that's why I'm posting this and to let others know theres a chance you won't be getting your orders. The woman tried to make it right by selling her old tamales. 😒 So mom is currently standing in line at Chavez Meat Market to buy tamales and lunch instead.
It's too bad because the food is good but not worth the awful...
Read moreAbout 12 years ago I used to buy unprepared masa (no lard or salt) for tamales here. It was one of the few places where you could find quality tamal masa, freshly ground, that you could mix with lard and broth and salt to your liking. Last time I went I ended up throwing away the masa. It was so YELLOW and had such a strong taste of Cal. Clearly, they hadn't rinsed the nixtamalized corn. As it's become so difficult to find quality fresh ground tamal masa in stores, I've begun nixtamalizing corn and making the masa myself - not a difficult process. The results are way superior to store bought masa. I saw this place mentioned on 'Check Please Bay Area' today. They talked it up. However, I stopped going to this place cuz the quality was no...
