I was sooo looking forward to the zucchini pupusas & platanos fritos with beans and cream. It has been like 6 months since I had them there. But was very disappointed ... first the cream(salvadorean version of sour cream) it was way to diluted just like milk when I poured it and no flavor. I did call the restaurant to inform them that they should check on it. But did not call back on the following...The beans were too salty; the fried plantains were just ok. I said to myself..no problem..the pupusa will make up for it..but, it was a flop!! No taste what so ever! The masa was blend..needed salt..the cheese was also NOT flavorful. SO DISAPPOINTED. I've been a customer with them since they were running the restaurant in a corner of a shared spot with a grocery store in San Lorenzo and the Abuelita Rosita whom I assume started the restaurant was the one making the pupusas..back then she would make them so huge and flavorful. Back then i would recommend it to everyone and I used to praise the flavor of their food. Since they moved here in Newark some years back service is No good..they used to be very friendly and pleasant..they seem not to care. And quality of food has deteriorated. The wait i time I wouldn't mind if the food was still good. Now its just so so. I no longer recommend to my friends. I think the ppl who give it a 5 star is because they don't know true Salvadorean Flavor. Also at the least bring back the service with a smile!! All of you act like you no longer want to...
Read moreOverpriced, their portion ratio is measured by table spoons (see Banana combo plate picture) and they sell you masa soaked in chicken stock because there was NOTHING inside the chicken tamales order (see picture with your own eyes).
Customer service is poor, you walk in and they do not even acknowledge you nor they attempt to voice a simple good morning or good afternoon greeting.
You can see the employees in the kitchen area as soon as you step inside the venue and they function more like volunteers to a random event because they are so uncoordinated cooking and preping the orders. Uber eats and Door dash drivers comenting among each other how the orders placed by their customers were not even ready eventhough they were notified that such orders were good to go.
The only item I will give them a 4 star is their Atole de Elote because it has the home made taste and texture which is close enough to the one you can enjoy in...
Read moreI love the home cooked food kind of feel at this place. My favorite is chicken pupusa and empanadas 😋 it's awesome. The service is good, people are humble and yes since they make it after you place the order, there's a wait time but I would love to wait to get those pupusa hot with their spicy sauce. You have vegetarian options too and they make as per your preference. I usually don't like cheese and they always make pupusa with beans and chicken. You have different meat options too. I have not tried their milkshakes but I am sure it must be good from the display of it on their digital presentation board. You can get other drinks such as soda etc as well. Parking usually is less on the road side so across the street there's a parking lot. A small place to sit and eat. Simple venue but homely...
