I split the Sichuan flavor hot soup with one friend. The broth was delicious (we chose medium spicy) and flavorful without feeling MSG or salt-loaded. It was so loaded with toppings that we had to refill broth once (free) to have enough for the items.
From the website, Sichuan description: "Medium to Flaming Spicy. Napa, beef slices, fish filet, flam, aorta, imitation crabmeat, tempura, fish ball, beef ball, zucchini, enoki mushroom, black mushroom, potato slices, frozen tofu, fried tofu puff, fried tofu skin, potato noodle, & scallions."
You get a huge variety of toppings that add up to a lot of food even for just the standard order. I don't see how a single person can finish one hot pot unless they take food home. When they refilled our broth, I could see that the broth had cloudy, milky color from cooking for a long time. It was so delicious!
The Napa cabbage was the perfect level of tender crisp, we didn't get any "cold" items in our soup. All items were the right temperature and cooked evenly, so we didn't feel rushed to eat quickly (which I've had to do at Boiling Point). I'm a fish ball fiend and ordered extra fish balls, but it ended up being too much food for the both of us. The house satay sauce is amazing, the fermented soybean sauce is on the sweet side which I'm not used to.
The servers were super nice and attentive. If there was anything we needed, they helped us right away, and then made sure to top off broth or drinks for all the other tables while they were on the floor. I was able to enjoy dinner with a friend and chat leisurely without feeling rushed by the staff.
I enjoyed the food and service here so much, I'll be coming back with my husband. Highly recommend for people new to hot pot that don't want to feel overwhelmed with choosing toppings. I think it's a way better value eating here than at all-you-can-eat places that are restrictive on the "expensive" toppings or that you would have to eat excessively to get your "money's worth."
The only drawbacks were that the side vermicelli order was tiny, and fish ball side order was about $5 and came with like 5 or 6 pieces. The standard order is huge already so I won't order...

Probably like many, I stopped by a Boiling Point and didn't want to wait for that long to eat but still craving Hot Pot. This location is only 10 mins away and the wait was 5 mins vs 90 mins at BoilingPoint.
Wait - Plenty of parking in the plaza and you can take a pic with the wings on their wall. You'll know what I'm talking about once you see it. Despite this restaurant selling Stinky Tofu, I didn't smell it in the environment like some other restaurants.
Menu - $11.99 for basic hot soups $14.99 for fancier hot soups +$1 for dinner and major holidays You have to choose your spicy level 1-5 You have to choose whether you want a side of rice or noodles
Tip #1 - Check-in on Facebook to get 10% off. The 10% off only works for 1 person in the group
Tip #2 - Use their Fivestars rewards program to get freebies like a keychain / dash mount
Environment - It's contemporary. Nice cushioned leather red chairs with large TVs around playing sports. It does feel like a nice modern place to eat.
Service / Food - The hot soup here is underrated, I like it a lot. Their service is very quick and friendly too. Don't be afraid to ask...
Read moreI recently visited Tasty Pot in Newark, and I was impressed by the overall experience. The location is convenient, with plenty of parking and numerous restaurants and businesses nearby. Upon arrival, we were greeted promptly and were fortunate to be seated right away.
The food was excellent, and the customer service was top-notch. However, I was less impressed with their boba and milk tea drinks, which I found to be mediocre at best. While the dining experience was fantastic overall, I would not recommend spending money on the drinks.
One suggestion I have is for the business to turn the AC up higher, especially since we are eating hot foods. It would make the dining experience even more comfortable.
In summary, Tasty Pot offers great food and service, but I would skip the boba and milk tea, and hope for a cooler dining...
