Stepping into AJI Sushi Newcastle was like stepping into a world of sleek modernity and vibrant energy. The restaurant's clean and contemporary décor, featuring minimalist lines and pops of warm colors, instantly created a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. The friendly staff, with their genuine smiles and attentive service, further reinforced the sense of comfort and hospitality.
But let's delve into the true star of the show: the food! From the very first bite, it was evident that AJI Sushi Newcastle prioritizes freshness, quality, and innovative flavor combinations. My dining companions and I embarked on a culinary journey that tantalized our taste buds and left us wanting more.
We opted for a diverse selection of sushi rolls and a plate of their spicy chicken teriyaki. Each roll was expertly crafted, showcasing the vibrant colors and textures of the fresh ingredients. Each roll was a visual masterpiece with a delightful explosion of flavors in every bite. The spicy tuna roll, packed with a satisfying kick, offered a delightful balance of heat and creaminess. And the seared salmon, with its slightly caramelized exterior and melt-in-your-mouth texture, was a true testament to the quality of the fish.
Beyond the exceptional food, the service at AJI Sushi Newcastle deserves high praise. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering insightful recommendations and patiently answering our questions. They were also genuinely attentive, ensuring our water glasses were always refilled and our needs were promptly addressed. Their friendly demeanor and genuine engagement added another layer of enjoyment to our dining experience.
One minor detail to consider: parking can be a bit challenging, especially during peak hours. If you're planning a visit, be sure to factor in some extra time to find a spot. However, trust me, the delicious food, inviting atmosphere, and exceptional service at AJI Sushi Newcastle are well worth the effort.
Overall, my experience at AJI Sushi Newcastle was nothing short of outstanding. The modern and inviting ambiance, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and innovative and flavorful dishes make it a place I highly recommend to anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable dining experience. I'd say they have a pretty solid pick. This may be my favorite sushi spot for rolls, but I do like torched sushi from other sushi spots so I'll separate those categories and have Aji Sushi as one of my number 1s!
The major downside is that everything is a bit overly sauced. One pro of that is that soy sauce is not needed and will actually not really benefit your taste buds. However, definitely wish there was lighter sauce.
Apologies for bad lighting, didn't take too much time to snag good pictures for ya'll to know what looks aesthetic to order.
Sean was an amazing server. Checked on us constantly, was extremely friendly, and attentive. Refilled our waters like 6 times in less than an hour!
Miso Soup - extremely salty. It's on the house so that's nice, but definitely not worth commenting on. Lacks tofu but is a warm "appetizer" if you will.
Monkey Brain - definitely worth a try. I'd recommend it to any of my friends if it's their first time. Personally wouldn't get it again because I value the rolls more, but I did enjoy it! If you like avocado, this is a solid, creamy item.
Aji Roll - the lightest roll that ended up being one of the best. Light and refreshing with a subtle crunch from exterior flakes and tempura shrimp on the inside. Partner said it was her favorite but it was my second favorite.
Fireball Roll - the heaviest roll. We could do without it, but we did enjoy it. You have to be feeling it and being in the mood for this roll, or to satisfy an appetite.
Baked Salmon Roll - a pretty basic baked salmon roll. Nothing surprising. I wouldn't come here to order this because there are plenty of other great options, but if you like baked salmon rolls, this is for you.
Manhattan Roll - my favorite, my partner's second favorite. I ordered it because the description sounded interesting and I loved the way everything blended together. At the bottom you have deep fried sushi rice in seaweed, basically the exterior of a sushi roll. On top, you have a layer of fish and roe with sauce. The crunchiness...
Read moreA great Japanese restaurant in a superb location. It's actually my first time dining in this area, but parking was ample enough and I had no problem navigating the streets. The interior is large and warm, and there are plenty of a variety of seats (I mean there are corner tables and round tables, booths, etc.). Sushi bar seating is also plentiful as well.
Food was good, and I left feeling satisfied and not heavy at all. The portions sizes were great, and the rice to sushi ratio was perfect. I actually like that they don't add the wasabi automatically as well. The menu is gigantic. Besides the array of regular sushi rolls (tekka maki, California, spider, etc.), there was roughly an additional 35 signature rolls. There is also some traditional japanese meals as well, like udon and stuff.
Personally I dont really like giant menus or reading page after page of similar sounding rolls. So I just chose their sushi omakase plate A. It was really good, and I also grabbed an amaebi to see if the freshness was up to par. It was.
Staff were nice and checked up on me pretty often. Prices are reasonable for me, especially for the quality and freshness of the fish.
Some cons: the miso soup was inedible, they put way too much salt on the edamame (my lips are still swollen). That's it, all personal things.
Recommended for smaller groups (less than 4). I'd also recommend sitting at the bar for omakase if they offer it, because the fish is fresh and the chefs know what they're doing (the cuts I got were...
