Mortensen Dairy Ice Cream — Restaurant in Newington

Top 5 on our list of favorite CT locations, and thankfully close by! High quality ice cream, family owned, and plenty of flavors for everyone. Plus if you're GF, dairy free, or vegan there is something for everyone! Even GF cones, which are much appreciated, are available on site. I do miss the full restaurant from years past. And the location is not desirable being on the busy Berlin Tpke. They do have some picnic tables out back, but still wish they were downtown in a more family-friendly area (of course, they were here before it got so big in the area!). Also cash only, so don't forget to bring! (They do have an ATM) While the ice cream is incredible and so worth it, prices are getting a little high compared to other farm-fresh places that are not cash-only (Almost $6 for a small 1 scoop cone/dish, if that's important to you). Better value to get the 2 scoops+ when you are hungrier or can take some home. They also have a great value "flight" of scoops you can share....

The selection and options were out of this world with very reasonable prices! I greatly appreciated the opportunity to sample some of the different flavors before making my decision! I went with the 6 flavor sampler! I got the Oregon Strawberry, Espresso, Coffee Oreo, Mint Chocolate Chip, Madagascar Vanilla, and Jungle Coconut. The Oregon Strawberry and Jungle Coconut were the best - very flavorful and fresh!

The service from Rachel and Jackie was PHENOMENAL!! They were so friendly, knowledgeable, and such a joy to talk with. The ambiance is very casual and a few seating areas to sit and enjoy...

This is a great place to go for ice cream. They have many flavors and toppings to choose from. I like the Banana ice cream. It is all the rage... They will let you sample different flavors, and they play cool, oldies music. Every time we go here, we find the staff is very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. There is an outdoor seating area in front (of the adjacent/attached restaurant, (Moe's Southwest Grill) as well as a few seats and tables inside. You may want to have dinner at Moe's and follow it up with dessert at Mortensen. Now that is a good plan for an affordable, yet delicious night out. The people that go here are nice. When we want to go out for ice cream, this is one of my all-time favorite...
