A cozy American pub food restaurant. Located in downtown Newington in former Vito's restaurant at foot of Cedar St. Enter parking on side St, East Cedar St. one side is sports bar/tv pool table area. Other side is quiet restaurant side..all new booths and terrific waitstaff! both steakfries and sweet potatoe fries, thickly cut. A nice menu incs gourmet burgers, pizzas, panini sandwiches, etc. Im a foodie and enjoyed TJs much more than other local burger or pub places in Central CT: Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, Berlin, Wethersfield, New Britain, etc. And as much as i once enjoyed Goldburgers, also in downtown Newington..this pub food is better! And it has a grown up seating area..Goldburgers is cold, ice cream tables too small to balance food n drinks. Their fries are thin, burnt often and thats unfortunately their norm. At TJs, you get choice of one side and there are several, inc very good salads, steak fries, etc. Prices are fair considering this lg cheeseburger incs any type of cheese, tomato, lett or onions, shrooms, etc. Cant encourage folks enough to try it, youll enjoy it very much. They have desserts as well inc cheesecake w/strawbs and other options..they lack a Tiramisu or flourless choc cake which im nuts for but you cant...
Read moreWe called in a reservation and when we got there they had erased our name from the list for whatever reason. We were seated a few minutes later. They gave us water and then we didn't see a waitress for another 10 minutes. We ordered drinks, apps and entrees at the same time, got our drinks 15 minutes later and almost 10 minutes after that our appetizer. Before we were halfway through the app the entrees came out - my "granny's turkey" sandwich looked delicious on the menu, but when it got to me I saw it was just deli turkey (looked like it came out of a lunchable), microwaved bacon, and barely melted shredded cheese. My boyfriends Reuben was good, but the bread was soggy by the time it got to us and he had to eat it with a fork. Overall, not very impressed. The spinach artichoke dip was delicious and our waitress was very friendly, but despite this we will...
Read moreThe only thing regretful about my experience was not trying this place sooner! I live within walking distance, and have for a few years now, but for some reason, they flew right under my radar. We ordered online and my husband picked it up on his way home. He stated that the interior was all updated and looked great, and that the staff was very friendly. The food was a TINY bit soggy, but I never expect take out to not be a little wet. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and my husband had a steak panini, and we split some mozzarella bites. Everything really hit the spot. Those fries remind me so much of Mortensens fries (back when they still had the restaurant), just a little thicker. That's high praise, because that was my favorite restaurant growing up. We will definitely...
