Gallo's Italian Deli Corona Del Mar — Restaurant in Newport Beach

We used to come here long long ago when there was a dirt parking lot and we remember the place fondly. They were able to put out delicious subs quickly at a reasonable price. Obviously time has changed since the dirt parking lot days. They have remodeled/rebuilt the building, modernized inside and now nice and bright. They even have a nice covered patio area to enjoy your sub. The subs are made fresh and still delicious, they literally cut our meat/cheese when we ordered. And that's probably why their service is quite slow at times. Their prices are on the high side, but I imagine it's not cheap to operate in Newport. Also, the subs are pretty hearty, we were able to eat just half of the regular. This place is so mid. Coming from people who are sandwich snobs, this place is trash. One of the nastiest sandwiches we’ve eaten. They offer one roll which was so stale, the employees have no idea what they’re doing, they will ask you what sandwich and you tell them you’d like the sandwich as is, and they proceed to leave out like 3 of the toppings that are clearly listed on that sandwich, had to remind them 2 times. They nearly forgot to put the meat on my Turkey Sandwich.. we ended up going back in and having them remake the sandwich for a completely different item because it was so bad and not enjoyable. So, ate here today for the first time. Love that they have half sandwiches! Had the hot pastrami. Tons of meat; was not sliced thin enough for ultimate flavor and was actually quite stringy; Will stick to the Hat's chopped and well seasoned. Bread is a standout; problem: fixins i.e. add ons were not refrigerated. The lettuce, tomatoes, etc. were just sitting out open on the counter in plastic containers; not good; imagine arriving for your sandwich at say 1:30! No ambiance whatsoever to this place and they sure could use more tables maybe that...
