I caught the sign of this place driving down PCH, heading to Crystal Cove, and being from The Bronx, I HAD to stop in and check it out for myself. Well, I'm floored. This is the most authentic/accurate flavor and texture of "NY Style" Pizza I've had in SoCal. I don't know how they did it, but I would argue this is legitimately indistinguishable from the real deal. Add to that the fact that for $5 you get "two" slices (they're comically oversized). I'm absolutely coming back.
I'm infinitely curious what it is they do different here at Johnny's from every other "NY Style" spot I've been in SoCal. These other places are always somewhat close, but never quite there. Johnny's is so incredibly spot on, that I would believe it if they got shipments from back East and they don't even make them here! 🤣 I need to speak to the owner and find out how they did it. Maybe they import NYC water? lol
Update: Still Bomb as ever! I recently went to New York and had pizza before I left. Soon as I got home I came here to try and compare as soon as possible while it was fresh in my mind... I can honestly say this place even beats most NY Places in terms of taste. I also decided to try the Calzone and Chicken Parm Hero and both options were Delicious. This place doesn't miss. Strongly...
Read moreParking is street parking. But plenty of spots all around. Not too bad.
Has some nice seating outside as well.
Let’s get into it!
Upon walking in I was greeted immediately. Noticed that had a great selection of pizzas, sides, wings and dessert.
Who doesn’t like pizza and wings? Opt’ed for the #4 combo. 1 LARGE slice of pizza it easily the size of two slices. AND 6 wings!? Yes please.
The pizza. Wasn’t expecting this. But damn that was a good slice! Actually tasted the way it’s suppose to. Pizza sauce/marinara isn’t too acidic and not too sweet. Has a great balance. Very light on salt which is good. Can always add your own never subtract. Cheese was tasty and pepperonis were a little spicy. Like they’re suppose to be!
Buffalo wings. Large juicy chicken wings. Lots of Buffalo sauce. They don’t skimp on it. The wings were absolutely awesome.
So would I recommend this place? Most definitely. This place is a solid spot for good pizza and wings. Atmosphere is super chill.
Food: above average. Staff: great. No issues. Cleanliness: very clean. Atmosphere: chill. Bathrooms: N/A...
Read moreI will start off with the pizza wasn't bad. In fact, it was pretty good. So why the 2-star rating? The crust was hard. The pizza was thin crust. When I asked if the pizza was suppose to be thin crust they said all of their pizza's are thin crust. That's not New York. Definitely, pizza from costco tastes more authentic than this place. The crust is not thin and hard in NY pizza. The garlic and oregano on the table was a nice touch and authentic. Until after I put a bunch of garlic on my pizza and realized it was actually garlic salt. Not authentic and my pizza was super salty now. If you want decent pizza and you live in the area, maybe stop by and enjoy. If you live an hour away, are originally from NY, and want something close to authentic, don't bother. Pizza wasn't bad but if someone gave one to you and told you they picked it up from California pizza Kitchen, you would believe them. I...
